We need to get waaaaaay out in front of this one!

Just called Gutwein's office. Asked to speak to someone familiar with the proposed bill. He said that would be him. He said what are your questions? I said I just have one; why?

He had no idea. Left my name address and phone for a response.

Anyone want to guess when that will happen?

Next up. My rep and senator.

ETA: Talked to Rep. Bauer's office. Dolly (His LA) asked if I were kidding. She asked me to call Gutwein's office. I explained that I did and his LA (Legislative Assistant) had no idea. She was amused by that.

She took my name and number and will email Gutwein to answer me.

If you are unfortunate enough to have this clown representing you (or NOT representing you as seems to be the case) I urge you to contact him and request that he WITHDRAW this wrong-headed legislation which would seem to have no purpose other than to enable discrimination against and invade the privacy of otherwise lawful Indiana citizens who choose to have a LTCH.
I'll refrain from the name calling until I hear an explanation. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt giving his pro-gun voting record.

Eagerly waiting his response. Maybe he's confused and thinks this is a cost cutting or streamlining effort. :dunno:

Nevertheless, I repeat that I don't like it.

    Real world example time.

I started a new job this week so today I had to go down to the security office with my boss to get an ID badge to let me get in and out of the building.

I was required to provide my DL to the head of security (former cop) so he could verify my identity. Again, in front of my boss. This office does contain some sensitive customer info, so security is tighter than most of my previous jobs. They had a bank of tvs with dozens of CCTV feeds. :shady:

I'm sure that if my driver's license indicated I had a LTCH I would have been forced to answer some uncomfortable questions.

Indeed! This is what the leftists and "Misguided Mom's" are so good at doing. But if Rep. Gutwein ends up feeling like he just stepped into a hornet's nest on something like this, it will help to discourage such stupidity in the future.

It's really troublesome that his own staff is so uninformed that they can't even provide any rationale behind this proposed legislation.

The real solution is to make having a Larry so commonplace that one would be suspicious if you didn't have one!

"McGrease, I need to see your DL."
    "OK, here."
"Ah, I don't see a Larry sticker... um, is there a reason why?"

Hey guys maybe we've overlooked something here.............if they pass this law requiring training.... when all of the felons show up and sign in for the training classes we can arrest them and get them off the streets!!!

Finally a common sense approach I can get behind.

What part of "shall not be infringed" do people NOT understand!!

That must be the same logic California is using to justify illegals getting Driver's Licenses and free car insurance

OK, but if grandma doesn't understand the self defense laws of her state, and cant hit the broad side of barn enough to pass a CCW test, then I'd be happy that she's not packing heat in public until her aim's better and she knows when she can and cant exercise the option of lethal force. There's nothing to stop her from having a gun at home in the meantime.

Granny Votes without a Competency Test and the Dims Do NOT want ID - Leave it Be or require these Instructors to do it FREE, or at Reduced State Rates for Community Service to the Public. It's NOT Broken, so Leave It Alone

    I personally think it's a good idea.

Edit: as far as the latch identifier on a DL. What is the basis of opposition to this?

It reduces the need to carry another piece of identification. I guess, I can see the argument of wanting to keep it out of view of the public (because an ID is required for a lot of things). I looking at it from a LE perspective, as if you are identifying yourself to us, we would know one way or the other.

It doesn't reduce the need to carry another piece of ID, at least not in Indiana. A person is no longer required to have their LTCH on them. Also unless a person is driving they are not required to carry any form of ID, and can simply ID themselves verbally. And how would you know if it's valid until you run the ID same as with the pink piece of paper(plastic). When you run the DL it shows if the person has a valid larry already doesn't it? All it would let you know is that at one point the person had one.

Leave it Be or require these Instructors to do it FREE, or at Reduced State Rates for Community Service to the Public. It's NOT Broken, so Leave It Alone

Say what? Require them to do it for free? Wouldn't that be akin to slavery? I've very much against mandatory training, but I'm also very much against forced servitude.

Hey since they're into taking away rights and some seem to agree with that..................the more rights taken the better......correct???

Wrote my state legislator this morning, asking her to oppose this. I doubt she (Linda Lawson) will, but I tried.
Here is my note, with preliminary junk omitted:
I am in opposition to this bill, and hope that you will agree with my reasons and oppose it. The first reason I oppose this bill is that it serves no need. People that have a handgun license already have a license, there is no need for an additional identifier. In addition, the fact that a person has a handgun license can be easily verified by police, this identifier will not aid in that process. Second is a privacy issue. If a person has a handgun license, why would the grocery store cashier, or the doctors’ office, or polling judges, or employers need to know? Third is expense. Why should the state spend additional money to create and implement this “identifier” when there is no need for it? Fourth is civil rights. While it is currently fashionable in some circles to bash firearms owners, how would we feel if this same bill was applied to other circumstances, such as religion? Should we place and identifier on the licenses of Muslims? What about people of mixed race? Or Socialists? Or petty criminals? Please join me in opposing this needless waste of money.

I'll be honest, I have no idea what this means.

It was apparent when I was pulled over that the LEO had been informed I had a LTCH before he got out of his car.
No more power needs to be given to the Law Enforcement establishment and no more rights need taken away.
There's too much info given to those that will use it against honest citizens.
It's always the law abiding that pay for those that don't care about or abide by the laws.
