Now being shown on CMT, with Pauly Shore.

The beginning where they are in Basic Training was filmed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I was there during the time they were filming, and met him as well as several of the other actors. He was more than a bit of a tool, which is probably not a surprise to any one here.:D In spite of that, it was interesting to me to see the movie's take on Basic Training when it came out.

A bunch of us grunts were actually in the background for most of the training sequences, etc. as random soldiers and extras, which was pretty cool for us as it was a brush with fame and it beat regular duty!

Just happened to be flipping through channels since I can't sleep and saw it, and felt the need to reminisce a bit.

...I've got close friends who spooned 30MM ammo for the A-10's in the opening air support scene of Transformers. (Filmed in the desert of Nevada)

That's as close to fame as I've come. :(

Oh, that and meeting Ashley Force when we were kids. Damn, if only I coulda kept in touch.

I was in OSUT at Benning right AFTER they filmed We Were Soldiers. They used my Battalion (previous cycle obviously) for the shot of all the troops right before they went to the 'nam. It would have been awesome to be a part of, but then again, it was awesome to be a part of what I actually did.
