I'll jump on the K frame S&W revolver bandwagon. The GP Ruger is a bigger and heavier frame, like a 686 smith. The K frames are lighter, more compact, most have very smooth working mechanisms, and have been proven durable. The model 66 is a good one, but for concealed carry, I stay away from the models with large adjustable sights. The model 64 and 65 (and many other blued offerings) are small rear frame sight/small front sight models. Ruger also used to make a model called the speed "6", which was a smooth shaved security six. I was issued one for work, it carried and performed well also. It was the same size and weight as a "K" frame Smith. Hard to go wrong with proven designs.

S&W model 500 in snub nose...

    THAT'S a real subtle choice!!!

I carry my 4" Ruger GP-100 quite frequently. I have the half-lug, fixed sight verson with the compact lett grips, which does make it lighter and easier to carry. As a matter of fact, I think my GP-100 in my Simply Rugged IWB holster prints less than my Glock 26 in my Comp-Tac MTAC holster.

My best frien had a Ruger SP101 that locked up on us during some range time at his house. That was several years ago and still view them as ify. In the last three months I bought a Ruger P90DC and having fun shooting it. The revolver I carry is a Rossi M720 SS 44SPL hammerless and it carries very well for me.

Lots of fine choices. Maybe something 4" K frame? I want flutes on the cylinder, smooth hard stocks, a trigger job. I like a red sight (don't ask me why I think it is what I grew up with--jig or fingernail polish on the front blade). .38, 357, or .44 or .45acp. I prefer the hammer so I can roll check with my thumb on the hammer (but that's me, INGO safety nanny).

    A Smith 10, 13, 15, 19, 21, 25, 27, 28, 64, 65, 325, inter alia. Remember, key is loading.

Let's listen to someone who knows a bunch more than any of us:

Sold off a 6" 686 (which I loved) and a 8 3/8" Raging Bull because, frankly, I never use them for their stated purpose, DEER HUNTING. I did buy a 3" SP101 from FunkeeCowboy late last summer, and a 3" GP100 from Buckshot in Winchester. These I do carry, although not every day. They're a pleasure to shoot.

642 is tough to beat. I know you are looking for a longer bbl... 686 with 2 inch bbl is heavy for every day carry. Model 66 is about the perfect compromise.

The video with Clint Smith is good. Don't know if he still does, but at one time his pocket carry backup was a S&W model 22 (44SPL) He does like wheel guns and I think was a student of Jeff Cooper.

Slim pickings at the gun store this weekend but I did get to handle a SW 629. It felt good in my hands for sure. I like the look as well. Any opinions relating to the 629?

4 inch barrel. Although they did have a 5 inch which surprised me since SW usually jumps from 4" to 6". At least in my experience

Also, (especially if you reload) on of ye smith 2.5-3" j frame offerings from smith and wesson in .327 fed. Adequate round, and 6 shots instead of 5, makes me smile just thinking about it.

327 is a very cool round Ruger offers it's revolvers in this as well.
