Who approves the super bowl halftime commercials? The network the event airs on or does the NFL have say in it? And since when did the NRA *not* approve of background checks? The one's in place now the NRA supports strengthening. AFAIK the NRA is only concerned with new checks aimed at eliminating FTF sales as that tramples all over our rights to privacy in addition to our gun rights.

I think universal background checks is the prize they are hoping to get.

They know they don't have enough votes to get an assault rifle ban, so this is their fallback position.

The issue is nebulous enough, that it sounds reasonable to most people, and will probably become law.
