This may be a dupe, if so, forgive me, but I just read this article linked on the Drudge Report about gun control from the perspective of the Russian people.

I highly recommend taking a minute to read. I love the last few paragraphs.

Yeah, it's truly a sign of the times when the Russians are telling us not to give in to our government and keep our guns!!

It's interesting though, that I've not heard people talk about the benefits of an armed populace for National Defense. That alone should keep our 2nd Amendment intact.

While President Putin pushes through reforms, the local authorities, especially in our vast hinterland, do not feel they need to act like they work for the people. They do as they please, a tyrannical class who knows they have absolutely nothing to fear from a relatively unarmed population.

1. Leaders not acting like they work for the people. Check.
2. They do as they please. Check.
3. No fear of an unarmed population. Working on it.
