I wish there were other inexpensive rifles, besides the Mosin Nagant, chambered in 7.62x54R. For high powered centerfire rifles, it's probably the cheapest to shoot at this point for a new shooter looking to get into shooting something with a big boom.

SG Ammo has brass cased surplus non-magnetic @ $0.64 per rd.

Brian's surplus had .223 ammo for $22 for a box of 20. He also had 9mm, 380 and 45acp but it was $110 for a box of 50. He also got a shippment in Friday and I was able to pick up Titegroup, Varget and Blc(2) today, but he has a limit of 1 of each powder type per customer. Price was a bit higher then normal but not bad. I paid $45/lb for Varget, $40 for Blc(2) and $35 for Titegroup.

GT Distributors has trade in .45 GAP ammo for sale. Same place the FHP Glock 37's were. At $13.99 / 50 for ammo and $17.99 / 50 for Gold Dots - stock up. The gold dots are going fast (lady I talked to this morning on the phone). It's cheaper than you can reload it at today's market prices (brass alone for .45 GAP is usually 20 cents + a case unless you get lucky.
