It seems like this is a far more frequent occurrence than what it used to be. Anyone know why town of Fishers flags were at half staff today 1/30/2016?

While I'm sure she was a well loved and respected educator, are we not trivializing the significance of this honor?

Some would argue she is a true hero for her actions that day; She pushed students out of the way of the bus, and lost her life doing so. That coupled with her 20+ years being a beloved mentor to thousands of kids, I dont see this as trivializing.

Now if she was just some teacher that died in a car accident on the way to school I might be inclined to agree with you. But there are other factors in this.

Normally I'm the guy questioning this stuff, but in this case, she did something to earn respect, not just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
