External safety, slide question

I have 2 handguns with external safeties, a Beretta 92FS and a Ruger SR40. With the 92FS the safety can be either on or off and you can rack the slide. With the SR if the safety is on you cant rack the slide. Is that because the SR is striker fired and the 92 is hammer fired? Or is it a manufacturer thing?

Depends on the gun, most frame safeties lock the slide. Doesn't have anything to do with being hammer or striker fired.
