This is an old one (Feb 2014), but interesting in that the attack was recorded, partially on video and partly just audio, the attacker confesses (at 3:56 in the first video) that not only was he trying to kill the defender but that the defender was right to shoot the attacker, and there is a bonus video in which the local District Attorney explains that the defender did everything right.
This takes place in a large house where the various rooms have been converted into apartments. A man in a downstairs apartment heard a commotion upstairs, set up a video camera pointing at his door, and armed himself. At one point he opens the door but elects not to go upstairs. Pretty soon the attacker (carrying a machete) comes back downstairs, kicks in the apartment door (which appears to be just a hollowcore interior door), gets shot, and either falls on the camera or knocks it face down. However the audio continues recording. Attacker is not killed, but he's not feeling so great as you can tell by his continued moaning.
