Not sure how to make the posted pic larger.
Regardless, a good day in the woods.
Congrats!
My season is done.
Am in quarantine.
If I get the wuhan flu will proly not get back out.
We've seen fewer deer than the number of times we've hunted this year. We're well over 50% of our hunts ending without seeing a deer at all. Worst season for us by far for the past 8 years we've hunted/filmed as a team. We've seen one 3.5yr old, a couple of 2.5 and three or four 1.5. Haven't seen a shooter on camera or in person since season opened and certainly haven't seen enough does to make shooting one seem like a good idea. Feels like hunting the 80's again.
I started deer hunting for my first time this year at age 34, fiance's grandfather owns 80 acres of farmland and woods so it was a no brainer. Took a small doe on opening day for firearms and a good sized spike buck with a broken antler on last day of firearms. I saw a few larger bucks and more doe than I can count throughout firearms season. Next year will be even better with more preparation and better deer stand/blind locations.
The '42 Husqvarna M38 in 6.5x55 did great, both kills were fairly close, 30 yards and under. Walked up on the doe just inside the treeline after following it across a field. Called the buck in with a doe bleat from a tree stand, came jogging up almost underneath me.
Still have a doe tag to fill, might go out for special antlerless season Dec. 26
