M&P Shield would be my first choice (as its what I carry) or M&P 9c if you want more capacity (I sold for Shield).

My choice was between the M&P Shield or the LC9, but I heard the trigger was pretty bad on the LC9. The Shield trigger is pretty damn good.

I have a Beretta Nano. It has one of the smoothest trigger pulls for a DAO, with a "Glock style" trigger. Being a slight bit top heavy makes for some really smooth recoil on it. I was pleasantly surprised with it. There is nowhere near any snappiness as there would we with, say a Kel-Tec PF9. After almost 800 rds through mine, it has passed to be one of my EDCs.
I couldnt agree more about this post. Love my nano.

Ok, this may be harder to find, but get a used Sig p250 sub compact, and then get the x-change kit for the compact version. It comes with the frame, slide, and barrel. Use the subcompact barrel and slide on the compact frame- gives you a longer grip, shorter barrel, and a 15 rd mag. Thats how I keep mine most of the time.
