Ok AK noob here, when I am cleaning the gas tube and piston do I oil either of these? Just as a heads up when I cleaned it I did not oil them, just didn't know if I needed to.

    Found this video, helped out!!

Its not a bad idea, just dont over oil them or anything for that matter. A light amount to help reduce friction is all you need. Really though, its an AK. Unless its corrosive, dont stress it too much.

It won't hurt anything, but you do not need to oil those parts. Oil would mostly burn off while firing, but any left over oil will attract powder reside and make your next cleaning a little more difficult than it needs to be.

I know it is an AK, but I enjoy a little one on one time with all my guns while cleaning them. I'll probably just won't oil it then. I wouldn't shoot any corrosive ammo in anything to much a PITA IMO.

They do not require oil, but it's not going to hurt anything.
It will smoke a bunch and then make cleaning a little harder, nothing too traumatizing.

I just oil the trigger area to reduce hanging and friction. Unless it s corrosive ammo and that is a whole other story.

The piston and gas tube don't have any contact points that require friction reduction, hence no oil needed. Just clean/flush with hot, soapy water like the rest of the gun. Dry thoroughly and reassemble. Personally, I shoot CLP into the tube and let is soak.

My guess is that you can dump wet sand in the tube and the thing will still function.
