I have a tikka CTR that is super accurate. 3/8 inch groups with Hornaday ELD -X. 143 grain bullets. I have killed exactly one deer with it, a doe at 275 yards. It seemed to work fine, but I have read of others having issues with this bullet. Anybody on here have any experience with it? My inclination, with a data set of one, is to keep using it. Any other experiences?

I know the caliber changes somethings, but one of the deer I took this year was with a 178 gr. ELD-x out of my .30-06. At 240 yards the deer just collapsed. If anything that bullet over performed. There was a lot of bruising when I pulled the hide. You never know what parts of the story some of these guys might be leaving out, may not be the bullets fault that they didn’t have a good experience with it. What matters most is whether or not you can shoot that bullet well. You put a hole through an animals hydraulic pump and out the other side it’s going to die.

I use the same 143 elds in my 6.5. I’ve shot deer with them from 30 yards to 300. They perform very well imo and I recommend them. Deer that I’ve shot have either dropped straight down or have only ran 30 yards or so.

    Sure do fly straight

Im a fan have shot whitetail, mule deer , and antelope with them from 60 to 420 yards all with same result

I've killed antelope, mulies, whitetail, yotes with the same bullet out of a 260 (old school 6.5 cm). Furthest kill was 400. The 400yd ran the furthest. He made it 30 yds

I shot one deer, twice and one coyote with the 143 eldx from a tikka 6.5,not impressed at all. Coyote was broadside at 150 yards and bullet didn't exit. 1 st shot on buck was head on at 140 yards and he kind of staggered and turned broadside and I put one behind his shoulder-bullet destroyed the lungs but stayed in opposite side rib cage.

I haven't bought a rifle in 6.5CM because I have enough .308 stowed away. It seems to do the same job on deer as I've heard from other shooters using 6.5. With my distances of 300 yards or closer, I don't think there is enough difference to get me to hop onboard. That and 6.5 seems to be $5-10 more per box.

My first experience with an eldx in my 6.5 was a kill , no exit no blood trail. My 243 with 80 gr Barnes seems to be the best deer rifle for me.

Last night I tried my load of 212 eldx out of 300 win mag. Too much for deer but really cool.

Several of my buddies shoot the eldx out of their 6.5's. they all mention it works but they're not impressed.

Thanks. I will probably try it out again next year when I am after does. I actually prefer my tikka 308 for deer hunting, but the tikka CTR in 6.5 is so stupid accurate with this bullet. Like I said, my data set of one was a DRT doe at 275 yards, but no exit of the bullet. She was kind of quartering a bit to me.

I shot a buck with a Nosler Ballistic tip in .270 up north. Blew right through. Nice exit. Shot another buck down here at 75 yards. Same bullet, no exit. Quartering to me. Did a heck of a job on the insides though.

I had good luck out of my Tikka with the 143 and 40.8 gns of h4350. Super accurate, and deadly so far. I don't reload 178gr eldx, but I shot a coyote with the .308 178gr eldx factory ammo and it was devastating.
