I think I will thank him while recognizing that he knew it was a fight he would lose. If we had a Dem in office, he would have vetoed it just to be able to tell his base, hey, I did what I could.
I`m glad you said that; I need to email my State Senator and thank him for being a champion of this bill He did it for the right reasons.

Ahhhh...if you want to commend him for this, you`re all good to do so. Me...I`ll be silently grateful that it got signed, but I won`t thank a political whore for their "blessing" my Natural Rights, and especially, when depending on the political and social winds at any given moment, this could have gone the other way.
Well, you're not wrong. I guess I only mean commending him in the same sense that you would "commend" a murderer for turning himself in to the police because he was about to get caught anyways, or some such analogy. I'm grateful the right thing happened and he didn't make this drag out any longer, but that doesn't mean I think Holcomb's a good person now.

Meanwhile, let's just celebrate the fact that it got done! I'm in the partying mood, today :bacondance::shoot:

I'll give credit where it's due. Thank you Eric Holcomb. I didn't think he'd do it. Maybe it was pure political calculation, but when rubber met road he did the right thing and signed it.
Still won’t vote for his sorry ass for trying to kill it before it got to him and also for vetoing the sports bill.

I hope he enjoys retirement from politics
Same here. He showed his true heart by trying to have his 'R' minion Liz Brown kill it early on. If he would have at least tacitly supported it and shown that he truly supports the 2A then yes, I would be behind him. I thank Governor Holcomb for doing the right thing but I cannot vote for him.

I'll just leave this here how I think many R's in office think of Holcomb.....
    John Jacob State Representative
"In all fairness to him, I can’t truly know what his reasoning was; however, we know that he’s a very weak leader, a democrat with an R after his name at best and possibly a closet Socialist, and typically, he won’t do what’s right."

Was announced on k105 news this morning.
No mention of the July 1st effective date.
    Could lead someone into trouble.

They simply stated you no longer have to have a license to carry a firearm due to the governor signing the bill into law.

Well sure, the media would love to see a bunch of responsible gun owners get in trouble.

I did reach out to the supervisor here with what I estimate to have the most red t-shirts per capita. I have spotted him many times at the 1500 and have confirmed his pro status.

I told him I have became very experienced at calmly and rationally explaining what constitutional carry does and does not do, if anyone needed to come talk to me. Then again they’ll probably throw holy water on me or something.

    Where's the bacon?
    Now, regarding HEA1041…
Yeah, Holcomb still needs to go. IMHO, this issue is an even bigger deal than CC.

I still want to party for the win that we did get, though, even if it's just a party on the deck of the Titanic
I initially said that this is another deal-breaker for me in voting for Holcomb in the future, (not that I needed another one) but I just read his letter to Speaker Huston explaining why he says he vetoed it.

He claims the process of arbitrating challenges is too wide-spread and would be open to unfair enforcement. He claims that there are already court challenges in other states that have enacted these laws. And he also claims that this is not really an issue in Indiana.

The last of these is laughable. What, we need to wait for some yet-unknown young lady to have her dreams crushed before we can act?
The first claim, that challenges could be dealt with differently between localities, seems to be begging for a single, central authority. Not surprising. That's what Holcomb wanted to maintain with the permit law.

This leaves us with a facially-valid issue, that the state could be exposed to court challenges. Holcomb did say that protecting women's sports is a valid and laudable goal (I don't recall his exact phrasing) and I get the fact that he doesn't want to have to spend money from the state coffers to defend a lawsuit. To me, I suppose that kind of makes sense. But then I think about the fight that culminated in the passage of HEA 1296, and the desire many of us voiced along the way: Even if it's not perfect, pass it and tweak it later.

My opinion on Holcomb has not changed. I will never vote for him again. I still would like some counterpoint on his published explanation, though.

Well, I don't have to bump the thread twice a day with EMAIL!!! CALL!!! I know ya'll were getting tired of it, TOO BAD!! BA-HAHAHAHA!!

Things wind down about now with this hobby. IGA 2023 session? We gotta get the "pointing a firearm is not deadly force" bill dragged through the House. Maybe I'll testify in opposition to bills written by certain individuals... you can guess who. (Not Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman BTW...)

Tax credit for firearms training/storage devices? Eliminating unarmed victim zones, tightening up the Laird Law, making Liz Brown unemployed?

Tonight? A Perdomo Champagne 10th Anniversary Toro and a couple cold ones that aren't mass-produced American swill (Quaff On Six Foot Blonde and Taxman Gold Standard out in the garage fridge...) while sitting on the screen-porch with the laptop. Nice evening for it.

Raise your glasses INGO (the drinkin kind, not yer bifocals. The cool kids wear tri-focals...) and toast Indiana becoming the 24th State with Constitutional Carry of handguns.
Next step, IMHO, is to work on elimination of "gun free zones".

GOA has put out an email with a "Thank You Governor Holcomb" link.

For those that want to thank him without taking the time to write your own note, here is the link. I did edit the second paragraph quite a bit because I thought it heaped too much praise on him for supporting the 2A.

Can someone give some details on this? When stated, it makes me think that someone points a gun at me without provocation.
Specifically this is in response to an Indiana Court of Appeals case from 2002 IIRC. It would not apply to castle doctrine situations or other use of deadly force is authorized situation is currently on the books.

In a use of force, that does not rise to deadly force, currently pointing a loaded firearm at someone is a felony, because two judges decided the inference of the possibility of deadly force equal deadly force.

Another way to look at it is it applies to defending your business in a riot situation. In Indiana, what we refer to as rooftop Koreans would be committing felonies.

This was talk to text so I’m not sure how garbled it is.
