This from the article was news to me.

Burge and other federally registered dealers are not given a way to check firearm serial numbers to verify if a gun has been stolen or not. However, pawn shops have that ability.

Burge said, “You bring in a firearm into a pawn store, they are going to enter it in a government database and they are going to be told ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ so it helps. We do not have access to that program, nor is it required.”

So a pawn shop can check serial numbers but a FFL cannot? Why?

I cannot imagine how long it took for those thugs to go through more than 200 universal background checks.

Could easily be another Fast and Furious type operation. I have absolutely no evidence of that, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. The government seems to enjoy arming people who probably shouldn't have firearms and taking away from those who are responsible.

    Indeed.

Only military and police should have firearms.

It's a poorly worded report. Criptic and hard to tell exactly what is meant.

One would think, if IMPD really did have firearms stolen, it would be reported on by more than just one source?

Greg from Beach Grove Firearms was commenting as part of the report. He didn't give the impression that IMPD had lost any firearms? Greg's concern was that there has been no notification of that many stolen guns flooding the area?

The evidence does not support that idea.

IMPD did not lose anything. The report was poorly worded. It is an investigation of stolen firearms investigated by IMPD and the ATF.

So we the people are expected to report a stolen firearm almost immediately but the police don’t have to? Ok, no double standard here.
Cool your jets. The police didn't have anything stolen. It's a poorly worded article. They are investigating a large theft of firearms.
