I came across these photos while surfing the webs.

While it may be interesting I am at a loss for why.

I shot a Pachmeyr .308 coversion on a 1911. It was a handful, but not any worse than a Thompson Contender. I would not want to shoot it more than a couple times.

I had an Encore .308, really killed deer well. Would that not be hard on the frame of a 1911? Can't really tell form the pics

Obviously, this is for the man who has an M-14 and wants a handgun in the same caliber so he has to carry only one type of ammunition - like my Super Blackhawk and my Marlin 1894, both in .44 Mag.:)

Back in the early to mid 80's, shooting steel silhouettes was a popular game. Shooters aimed at different sized chicken, ram, javalina steel targets at different yardages out to 100 or 200 yards. The size and weight increased with the distance. So out to 100 or 200 yards, a .44 usually had to be loaded very hot and the shot pretty precise to knock over a ram.

The 1911 conversion was one idea to provide shooters a less costly alternative to a custom gun, a TC Contender or a Rem XP pistol. A 1911 owner could buy the "upper" in many powerful calibers and be able to shoot in the "Unlimited" class and be able to knock down the heavy targets at long range with a pistol that was still cheaper than a dedicated gun used only for silhouette.
