I posted this in long guns when I should have posted here, 1863 springfield converted to 16ga. I know nothing about black powder and would like to shoot it, Soooo, what percussion caps do I buy, what powder and what patches? plan on using 1 oz of shot(I reload 16 ga so have plenty of shot) 1864 001.JPG

You will need to know if the nipple was converted also. An unaltered version will use musket caps that have four wings
on them. If the nipple was converted it may be the common #11. Musket caps are larger in diameter.

Musket cap next to a #11. I would use 1Fg or 2Fg powder. I’m no muzzle loading shotgun expert but I think you generally load powder, over powder cushion wad, shot, then a thin over shot wad to hold it in.

I think it was Circle Fly that I used to get them from. Looks like track of the wolf has a wide variety of sizes. I’d say measure your bore best you can and order a bag of them.
