Underwood has full power 10mm. Federal makes 10mm with 40 Short & Weak loads.

I use the Underwood 135gr Nosler JHP for my 10mm self-defense round. It has good ballistic gel tests also and transfers over 700 ft lbs of energy to the target.

    Sig is making a decent 10mm load. 180gr 1250fps.

Buffalo Bore is another company that have loads with full power 10mm.

Agreed on all accounts , most 10mm factory loads are weak at best. Though at NRA 2019 the Federal rep said their HST bullet is designed to expand at their 1100fps. I am waiting to get into the 10mm game untill I get a reloading setup so I don't have to pay buffalo bore prices to have fun with it.

    For me it's Hornady XTP.
Got a bunch a few years back and they work quite well.

1911 in 10mm does a good job for me.
Cycles well and the 1911 frame holds up well with full power rounds.
I started with a friend's Bren 10 and got hooked.

When hand loaded you don't have to put up with wimpy loads.
Ammo is insane priced, this is one time that home loading can actually save you quite a bit of money.

That's what I do. I use Hornady 155gr XTP and 800x for over 1550 FPS. I also use the 200gr WFNGC and get around 1258fps avg.
800x can give you full power 10mm loads but you have to trickle in to get the right amount of powder. I love the performance of 800x for 10mm.

I would go with the Underwood. I have a S&W 1006 that loves 200 gr XTP's or Gold Dots, the EAA likes any full power 10mm from 165 gr to 200 gr, the STI Perfect 10 likes 180 gr XTI's. I will only shoot full house rounds in a 10mm if I want to shoot .40 I will use a Sig in .40. Just try the rounds you want to shoot and see which one hits where you wants it to. I don't shoot 10mm much any more as Arthritis in my hands don't like it.

Are we talking about range ammo here or defensive loads? I carry Federal's 200gr solid core with syntech coating in my G20. While I haven't put them across a chrony Federal advertises 1200fps from a 5" barrel. That's nothing to sneeze at for that weight and barrel length

Didn't know they made anything that fast. I'm kinda shocked. My 200gr WFNGC bullets avg velocity 1258fps.

I'd like to get some and run it through my chrony with my 1911 5".

I don't think they're easy to find. I ended up with 2 boxes given to me through a trade. They hit plates with authority. The G20 is my woods/hiking gun. I do go hiking a few times a year where black bears are present. So the G20 comes along too

Yep I just put notifications on a few websites so I can grab a box and test it.

Carried the Speer 180gr Gold Dots (govt issue) in my .40 s&w duty gun for years. Never heard anyone complain about them.

SO is 2400 fps rifle like enough to create the "shock wave" in a body to no longer be "crappy like all pistols" for self defense?

Here's this thought. A 62gr 5.56x45mm traveling at 3000 fps still won't do the damage a 400gr 45/70 traveling at 1800 fps will do. It's definitely under the 2000 fps threshold. So again I'm not sure science/physics has it figured out quite yet.

Anything HST or Gold dot is pretty much gold standard. Gold dots are bonded for better barrier pen, but either one is GTG.

As an fyi, if you have any questions about ammo tests and performance, might I recommend Tnoutdoors9 or Mr Paul Harrell on YouTube. Both do some pretty extensive ammo testing.
