So basically 1 of every 6 Hoosiers might be armed. That's very encouraging. A great crime deterrent.

    What's an inactive handgun license?

I would say one of the previous 4 year LTCH from years past that folks have not renewed. Several have gottone it back in the day and just never ised it. And for some its just not a priority.

I also know of severactive and retired LEOs have let their old 4 year permits expire as with the passage of LEOSA they can carry on their credentials only.

(disclainer not trying to trigger any debate just an observation on why a few have not renewed permits since 2004)

It would be interesting to see the breakdown by county. One would think that rural areas would have a higher percentage of permits, but the chance of actually encountering a BG & needing a LTCH would be exponentially higher in urban areas ie Lake & Marion...

OK, curiosity wins... 3 largest Indiana counties / population / LTCH / percent (for 2020):
    Marion 951,869 / 132,142 / 13.9%
    Lake 485,707 / 67,487 / 13.9%
    Allen 372,575 / 47,991 / 12.9%

And the 3 smallest Indiana counties:
    Ohio 5,874 / 1064 / 18.1%
    Union 7,113 / 1,366 / 19.2%
    Warren 8,237 / 1,693 / 20.6%

Now, someone break it down by registered democrats vs republicans.

    So... 645K active licenses.

In 2020, there were 1.1 million NICS checks (aka: firearms sold).

Meaning, on average, each license holder bought 2 new guns.

    OR

on average, every 5th adult in Indiana bought a new gun.

In 2020. During a "pandemic". When we had to make a special effort to find an open gun shop. Folks REALLY wanted a new firearm.

Lord knows how many firearms we all own already.

Look at your neighbors. Pretty good chance at least one of them is armed, too. Nice!

645K is the delta increase since Jan 2013 IIRC. 1.12M active (ISP’s term) LTCHs.
