How many open threes did you see? I don’t remember any wide open looks. They took a page from the NCS playbook and tough guarded the ball all the way up, got in Smiths face, and wore him out.

My big complaint was Painter. He should have known this was coming, I did, but he had no adjustments. They desperately need some off the ball screens to get some three looks but nothing.
The real complaints should be on how the team was constructed. This whole team was predicated on Edey being dominant in the post and kicking out to open shooters when teams doubled. There was no plan B and no other real option since the guards and wings were not good enough to generate good shots on their own. Edey and the rest of the team with him were exposed when he couldn't simply elbow his defender out of the way every time and score at will. Painter's inability to recruit a talented guard or wing scorer to take some pressure off Edey doomed this team. They were fortunate to get a good draw in the tournament that didn't expose them earlier. They were also extremely fortunate that Edey avoided foul trouble and injuries all season.

IMO, there wasn't much Painter was going to do in the game that would have made any real difference. UCONN was a much better team and Purdue really couldn't stop them consistently, thanks in large part to Edey's inability to guard anyone in space. Of course it didn't help that Purdue's guards couldn't stop or even slow the drives that carved them up. UCONN missed a lot of open shots as well which made the game seem far closer than it really was.

Additionally UC has three legit NBA players. Since NIL Purdue needs fans to contribute big bucks to land big players.

Been a Purdue fan for over 40 yrs. I was hoping to see a final4 bid in my lifetime and I got that. It was a great year, fun to watch this team and in the end they fell a bit short. Uconn was the better team when they needed to be. Very proud to say Im a Purdue fan today. Boiler Up, can’t wait to see what Heide is gonna do in his career . I think that kid is the real deal!

I've been an IU fan for over 40 years, but unlike many I have always cheered for Purdue also. The only time I'm not a Purdue fan is when they are playing IU. I cheer for all teams from Indiana unless they are playing each other, and I am forced to make a choice. I think the Purdue players gave it everything they had and should be proud of their run. I agree they just ran into a much better team.

Hahahahahahaha. Let the alumni foot the bill or corporate donors. NIL is an NCAA construct. Fans have no obligation to see it succeed. Besides they already pay for tickets and licensed apparel.

NIL is absolutely not a NCAA construct. It was forced on them by a lawsuit they lost and exhausted all appeals on. Alumni are fans and corporate is hiring the athletes for, their name, image, and likeness.

We support freedom at INGO, I hope you are not saying government institutions should be able to restrict athletes from making money from their abilities, alumni donors shouldn’t be able to support them or companies be able to hire them…

They can get money anywhere they choose, without my tax dollars being used to pay for their classes or room and board. They effectively become an employee and able to pay their own way with no need for grants or scholarships. Also your comment on fans needing to spend money sure sounds like a democrat. Easy to decide how others need to spend their money.

Do you realize the football and basketball pay for most if not all of the college sports. The college sports package with media are in the double digit billions. Funny, you are the one sounding like athletes should work for free in a communist collective. Is the engineering student prohibited from making money on their talents? Even if they are on scholarship? Maybe take a look in the mirror…

Can we now stop plundering taxpayers for sports programs and scholarships at public universities?

Though I'm not a Purdue fan as I went to IU, I still give credit to Purdue for playing the best game they could with what they had.
Uconn was just too much for them.
Purdue should feel no shame for not beating Uconn.

Probably best to get education complelely out of the hands of government…

My opinion is "yes" and wiling to entertain opinions to the contrary.

Some may claim "sans state, education would not be effective and would not thrive."

Yet education has been part of parenting for thousands of years.
