The Palestinians had their backs to the sea and were surrounded on three sides by a more powerful enemy.
They chose to sucker punch the Israelis by murdering unarmed civilians, killing 30 children, and using 'sexualized torture' (the UN's term not mine). What did they expect to happen?

Who would benefit from the **** storm of Israel wiping out Hamas? Iran? Yes. Hamas leadership? The living ones. Yes. Hezbollah? It appears. Huthis? Yes. Weapons flooding in.

I expect what they 'expected' to happen is what Biden is trying so hard to deliver - that the IDF would kill some of them, but only the cannon-fodder, and international pressure would force Israel to desist before they could cut the head off the snake. Leadership would then siphon off part of the billions in rebuilding aid into their overseas accounts

We have to keep in mind, both Egypt and Jordan had authority over the Gaza strip Palestinians. In addition, they had a similar religion/culture. Both of them keep their distance from them. I'll bet there is a reason why they are on the side of the family that does not get invited for summer cook outs.
There are 1200 year cultural frictions between each clan that I doubt even they understand.
