Must have been back in '95 or '96 when I was in High School, we had a solar eclipse. My science teacher took a stack of note cards and used a hole punch in the middle of each one. I remember the whole class going outside and watching the shadow of the eclipse through the hole in the note card. Pretty cool how it worked.

Any suggestions on places to go within the path and have a lunch before hand and then watch the show that would be more chill and not packed with people? Thinking of driving down from NWI with the wife to take it in.

    Destin's guest was awesome.

We used a bedsheet during the 2017 eclipse to see these. They don't photograph or video well, but were amazing to see. Only visible for about 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after totality. The unusual thing I noticed was the direction of the movement changed 90 degrees from before to after.

New Castle, Winchester and Union City are all near the centerline. Weather and traffic are unknowable variables.

I would stay away from Bloomington as the do get near 4 minutes of totality they are booked up in hotels at 500 a night. College town so there will be visitors. Plenty of places on the center of totality line.

Deer creek music center (or whatever they call it today will allow you to watch for $121.50 a car and I believe the Indy track and the state fair grounds have something similar.

I am just staying at the house. 3:32 totality and not worth driving for the extra 27 seconds. The closer you get to the center line the more people you will see. When we went to Kentucky for the last one we were right on the center line near collinsville. Several places were offering viewing for 5-20 dollars some in very nice open areas. We found a small town that was about abandoned and watched from a church parking lot. The drive is was easy. The drive home was horrid.

Hoosier National Forest by Lake Celina, Tipaswa and Indian are in the path...Our property, unfortunately, is just a mile or two away from total eclipse...but...it's 30 acres and hopefully...(Google maps still says our property is Hoosier National Forest) there won't be any people there....

I am looking at the map and we are less than a half mile from total...map says we are 99.99 total and that's good enough for me to avoid crowds.....

I booked at room for a couple days at the Hampton just off 65 in Franklin, KY . It was awesome. We stayed 2 days so we could avoid the crush that day. And glad we did.

It was a-holes and elbows during lunch the day before in E-town. such a crush of people it overloaded the cell towers.

We're in the path of totality and they've canceled schools, told folks to stock up on foods, required meds, and keep your gas tanks full.

They are expecting a LOT of additional people in town and the area (30 min from Bloomington), I guess I just don't see what the big hubbub is about.

Total eclipse is a singular experience. Even 99% is not the same. It's eerie. Having seen lots of partials and an annular, but only 1 total, it's really worth it.

Don't bother taking pictures - just watch and enjoy. Go ahead and use optics for totality - as long as you are in totality you can use unfiltered binoculars, scopes, whatever. Once the slightest sunlight appears, back on go the filters.

You’ve obviously never experienced a total eclipse.
