I picked up a Colt Defender .45 that is in excellent shape externally, but it’s clear it had been carried daily (lint everywhere around the slide stop, thumb safety, and in the magazine well).

No idea as to the round count, but the extractor area of the pistol looks mint. Anyway, I’m hoping to connect with someone who is a bit of an expert in taking down, examining, and cleaning 1911s. Thanks in advance. I’m happy to pay whatever is considered a fair price for the service.

And just let them know you want some training/guidance, not to just do it for you. I'm sure they will train you as they clean it. Or even better; A proper instructor will walk YOU through doing it since DIY is more effective than watching somebody else do it.

Just let them know what you want if you agree with my suggestion. I'm sure it will cost a bit more than a cleaning since it will take more time, but it will be worth it.

As an outsider I'd have you suggest that they bill you for an hour of instruction, but with one of their cleaning guys instead of a range guy. Same concept, different part of the building. That seems fair since a cleaning without you would take them 20 mins, but walking you through it could take an hour. (assuming a cleaning is less than an hour of instruction)

Another great idea. I’ve done basic takedowns of the platform before, but I want to completely take this thing apart. And although I can pull up YouTube, I’m much more of an interactive learner.

    Thanks for your excellent suggestion.

I will echo Born2vette, if you don't mind driving to Avon I would be glad to walk you through complete disassemble and inspection.

    I'm good with that.
Would there be any interest in me doing a saturday of 1911 complete disassemble and going over some of the basics similar to what I have done in the past?
Geography is a real pain sometimes. I know it’s a lot of work and you are busy. Have considered perhaps a video upload of the event?

I would have to give that some thought, it's Interesting idea and I get it about logistics. But that would require someone other then myself to do the video work.

Maybe there is someone on INGO may have the skill set to help. I would be more than happy to help but again that whole geography thing.

I've disassembled/reassembled one to the frame before but would still love to know all the pitfalls and things to look out for to do it properly.

I learned a bit from watching this youtuber https://www.youtube.com/@MosinVirus/videos. He seems pretty competent and his videos are very concise and does an excellent job explaining how & why to do the things he does and the way he does them.
