One of my concerns in the "Death of the LGS" is who'll be doing all these internet transfers and 4473s?
I could easily see the big box stores only doing the firearms bought from them to further discourage competition.
Sounds like this is a situation the anti-2A, left could sink it's teeth into.
Rural king already doesn’t accept transfers

Yep, but don’t say it to much, or the mob will come after you. LOL

    Nailed it!!!

Wait your turn, ask questions, if he don’t got it he’ll give the best advice he can. A no BS kind a guy, sit down n the chairs and talk guns till your up. (he has to deal with a lot of ”the region” types) I mite be one of the old guy’s there. Best prices that I know of, and my best friend owns a shop in a city South of there.

If he ever decides to sell out I’d like to buy the shop. But I’m a few older than him.

Hey, edporch, do you farm in that area?
Yes, I still have some land in that area.
Sold my tillable ground some years back, but still have a nice corner lot pasture with trees and pond in the Moody Road area.
And some land on the main drag on the north end of Rensselaer for sale.

I will agree that Jerry's is one of the better LGS. Not exactly local to me, but if I'm looking for something in a store, he is one of the first I check.

He is who he is, I've never had a problem having a conversation with him. He is strait forward and honest and I've never felt like he was trying to pull one over on me.

Most of my other go to places have closed down.

Makes you wonder if some of the larger online only gun sales websites would put together some kind of framework or incentive for FFLs to be part of their FFL/distribution network. I see some of the suppressor OEMs do something like that? I don't want it to go that route because again, that centers a lot of control with particular online retailers, but those online retailers also have a vested interest in having available FFLs.

I also trust my LGS to put up what resistance they can when the ATF comes after their 4473's. RK will send everything if the ATF even looks at them. Not much but it's something.

My local guy at his LGS always smiles and says thank you after a purchase. Often a handshake and I say that too. Can't ask for more respect given and received.
Easily have bought and deal trades for a dozen firearms over the years.
One day he will retire, and thats all folks. Best of luck to him. He earned it.

In what's left of America, good businesses prosper and poor businesses fail. There will always be someone who will take the place of a bad business, as long as semi-free enterprise is in operation.

If your LGS has died, often it was suicide.

How many LGS's have you seen where they act like they are doing you a favor? Couldn't care less if you bought or not at their wild prices?

I'm all for supporting the GOOD LGSs, but a lot of them have just abused their captive audiences over time and folks finally wised up.

A classic was Don's. On each handgun case was a sign: "If you found it cheaper somewhere else, dont tell us. Go buy it there."

EDIT: For those that arent aware/in the Indy area, Dons guns was run by Don Davis, a former Teamster and rumored to be connected to the mob. Which could explain why none of the charges ever stuck. He was investigated multiple times by the feds because a disproportionate number of his firearms were showing up on the streets of Chicago and elsewhere at crime scenes.

Off the top of my head it was a ridiculous number like 5% of all gang banger guns came from his shop. Which doesnt sound like much until you realize how far away from Chicago he was, and just how many shops there are in that 150 mile radius around Chicago. He was a smarmy dude.

Internet gun sales killed the LGS.
    Bigger selection and cheaper prices.
Most gunbuyers are the worst tire kickers and tightwads that ever walked the face of the planet. Most go in the LGS and ask a ton of questions, fondle a bunch of guns, waste the sellers time and then go home and buy it off the computer. After all that, then they want the same LGS to do the transfer for almost nothing.
Everyone wants to be special in today's world and are so easily offended but, will put up with the worst service ever to buy that new IPhone.
Sorry, I just think it's funny that grown men complain about not being treated like royalty. It's a cruel world out there.
Ok, now you can tell me how terrible I am.

Yup. Come in 3 or 4 times (or more), burn an hr plus per of salesguy's time, asking same questions over and over.

    Has explicit criteria.

Item isn't in stock but shop can order.

Dude orders online instead.....and it aint even close to what was discussed prev.

Shoots it, isn't happy, and expects salesguy to give him full retail for trade/buy.

    LOL

i agree with a lot of the above. It’s a tough business and people have differing expectations. When I go in, I do like a greeting
even if it’s just a nod. Generally I don’t need any help until I look through everything. I am not a chitchatter until that point. If I am still there, standing and looking at the clerk, I most likely am leaning toward buying something. My guy at Midwest knew my routine. If he saw me looking at him, he would come help me as soon as he could. same for the old crews at ZX. If someone has bought dozens of guns at the shop, they are likely to get a little more attention than someone who hasn’t.

Got to give a shout out to 2 shops that I frequent: Marksman Shooting in Westville and also Wrigley Arms in Fort Wayne. Always good service at both of them.

I try so hard to like that place and have stopped in there on multiple occasions every time buying something small just hoping he gives me a reason to come back and make bigger purchases but he is just always grumpy…. Passed couple times I just skip it.
And Jerry makes transfers difficult as he does not have internet. I‘ve started supporting Sheepdog Armory in Crown Point. Good service, fair prices and if they are not busy, will BS with you.

Speaking for myself only, I don’t own an iPhone. And the last time I turned on a computer was the date in my avatar.

Again only myself, I don’t find that difficult, I just call it life. As for the BS…..well that’s what it is, also just life.

Folks can complain about the decline of the American way of life or they can have instant gratification, I for one would be fine if I woke up in the morning and every big box store in the country was just gone. But that’s just wishful thinking of a fudd.

I always like the guy who after looking at something would pull out his phone and show me a better price at some website hoping for a price match. I would always offer to hit the buy now button for them !
