Apparently it's common for athletics also? Why not require it to use the city parks and pools too.
I graduated in ‘97. We had to sign a paper stating we could be randomly drug tested, well, our parents had to sign until we were 18. They even tried it to be eligible to get a parking pass for school. That didn’t go over very well.

Any activity outside of education can be regulated in this way. Sports, music contest and choir events along with dances, queen and king competitions.

Jeez, if they'd have done that at our school (class of '78), they would have cut the enrollment by over half, and probably wouldn't have had any sports teams whatsoever. :):

They tried that BS around here a few years ago with students in sports, band and such. Several parents demanded that all teachers, aids, admin, janitorial, school board members and bus drivers test as well. It got dropped and hasn't been brought up again.
Can’t speak for the others although I think I know, but I was a school bus driver for two years and was subject to random drug testing. Still am, matter of fact, although I’m no longer a public contractor.

Federal DOT regulations come into play with a bus driver, all licensed commercial drivers are subject to random drug testing and mandatory testing in the case of a vehicle accident when one vehicle has to be towed.
Regardless of fault. That’s whet the IMPD officer told me when I got sideswiped, the dudes car was pretty torn up as part of it went under my axle, but he lived right around the corner so he just limped it home so the officer said I wouldn’t have to be drug tested.

I'll take the other side of this...

Recreational drug use among our entire population is a HUGE problem. Add in fentanyl and it's more than just a problem.

I'm only guessing the school officials would love to stay out of this, however there is no choice these days.

    .
Just as bad in adults. Test the coaches and teachers.

Would love to refuse to explain a positive drug screen due to a prescription med

So you think making a kid **** in a cup randomly sometime during the year will stop then from experimenting?

You'd be shocked how many ODs i see in people with ankle brackets and active drug surveillance
I could make my sons **** in a cup, drug testing public school students, doesn't fall under an educators job description.
