Doesn’t this make these companies an agent of the state if they are being paid? No different than someone being used by the police to get you to hire an assassin, then they get a reduced charge

What data do you have unfettered access to?
The cell phone / GPS data we're discussing. Companies gather the data, package it up, and companies can subscribe and/or buy that data...

Heck, the general public can get access to some of it for free via every states ADT (Average Daily Traffic) websites...

They’re being promoted all over our area here in Zionsville and HOAs are being asked if they want to install hem. Fortunately my neighborhood said no.

we would have had to pay a fee to install and maintain cameras that absolutely have the ability to invade our privacy. No thanks.
They make YOU pay for them? Are you sh.tting me? Wow.

A Couple of years ago I had a discussion with both my sheriff and his chief deputy, and our towns chief of police.

One thing that came up in both discussions were the use of license plate readers. Both were quite enamored with them and spoke glowingly of their ability to identify stolen vehicles, wanted vehicles, etc.

I asked how they knew did the data would not be Misused. Both extolled the 30 day limit on data retention, and the protocols the department's head in place for use of the data.

My simple retort was, so you own the cameras, the network they transmit over, the storage the data sits on, the analysis software is owned by the department and sits on your servers, and it is then transmitted over your network to your officers.

The answer of course was "of course not".

My response then, was that the department had no idea what the security of the data, the analysis, or the output was. The vendor could tell them anything, and they had no way to verify the security or data detention practices. I then stated bluntly, that any technology can be used for good or evil. You may be using it for good, that does not mean those who actually own the cameras, the network, the analysis software, or the output from that software are not evil.

Curious how much something like that sells for. Like the internet, I've always figured everything they can collect on you has some value. Maybe now companies are selling everywhere you go, where you shop, who you visit.
I believe they are leased, and roughly $2k annually per camera. Obviously negotiated based on number of cameras and HOA versus Government lease.

Nope. Just nope. My hood operates on the 2A not a camera system. Now I may not give a Flock but I'm sure some hoods don't have neighbors who know each other. I can call them by name and number should the need should arise. They can call me too since I'm one of the young guys (59 ain't young but they all have me beat except 3 neighbors). We live in a loop and watch who comes in and who leaves. This is the kind of security we should strive for. No beefs, no drama, just people coexisting peacefully.

The Flock cameras aren't for issuing citations. They aren't for running red lights or speeding. They are simply for building a searchable database of everyone's movements...
I'm not doubting that one bit. But could you imagine a world like the tv show "Person of Interest" in the world of "the Terminator".

Add in facial recognition, and these should work wonders when local governments start instituting 15 minute cities. :tinfoil::dunno:
I’m sure with an upgrade here or there and they could also use those to tax you for driving the wrong kinds of cars too often or too much….nah, that would never happen.

FLOCK is just a technologically advanced version of this without the delay of showing your papers.
Explain this. How the two are the same.

Nashville Tn tried to put those up around town. The people fought back and won. I found out than that when you get caught doing something on a traffic camera in that state. You are not penalized anyway shape or form. Insurance won't be notified, no points off of your licenses, and you can't be turned over to a collection agency. But by law you are required to pay the fine. And you can be sued by the agency that owns and operates the cameras. And not long after that, I got busted for going under a red light. Got a ticket in the mail even stating all the above and a couple threatening letters. Then I moved back up here and had no problems getting my DL and tags transferred back. TN people don't like being spied on by any means. I would say that you should talk to your state senator or representative and see if you can get something done statewide.
    These are not traffic cameras.

You can be sure that they're being operated at a profit, and it's either your tax dollars or your data being monetized, or BOTH.
What data are we talking about here? Make, model, color of vehicles they record? BMV information is not available to FLOCK, there are state/federal laws regarding the dissemination of that information.

So you are okay with agencies tracking your whereabouts?

Society has given over their privacy the minute they embraced smart phones. FLOCK doesn't track people, it's a vehicle database, snapshots of the rear of vehicles that pass by. Smartphones on the other hand, GPS your every movement and ARE evasive. Even the microphones are constantly active.

I believe the issue is observing vs recording and storing.

So your saying this type of information has never been compromised in any other local? Glad to see laws are having a 100% success rate.

Will LE make the assumption that the owner is driving the vehicle passed one of these cameras when they decide to issue a citation? Will it be up to the owner to prove he was not the driver?
