Not an ar15 but close enough.

This was a test run before I build a real lightweight 308 AR to see if I really want to spend 3-4x the money to save another 2 pounds or so.

13.9 p/w Faxon gunner barrel, CMMG zeroed ambi lpk + PDQ custom fit by @AllenM for true ambi functionality without spending 3x the cost of this receiver set for a factory ambi lr308 set.

Just picked it up today but likely won't be out shooting for a couple weeks after my car accident last night. Just don't want to spend the extra money on a range trips worth of ammo when I'm this mad - ammos still expensive and I'd like to shoot a truckload right now.

    Slick build. What’s the weight?
No idea but it won't be terribly light. The front end is all I was concerned with on this one and I'm mainly going to be testing the buffer/spring/titanium bcg setups out on it to see what yields the best recoil impulse.

So many people recommended using the heavybuffers websites custom ~8.5-9 ounce buffer - I can't remember the exact weight. But tons of people said that have them the lightest recoil.

I simply don't see how after using a titanium bcg + carbine buffer with all weights removed on a 5.56 and having a MUCH lighter recoil impulse.

If the heavy + full mass bcg feels better I'll likely forgo the ultralight build altogether.

I'm hoping that's not the case though because the parts I have planned out would get me to 6.25 LBS with a red dot + can (no mag) - which I think would just be insanely cool.

Rough guesstimate on this aero is about 7.25 as it sits. I'm 99% sure it's between 7.15-7.35.

It's a bear creek bear claw fluted dual charging 5.56 upper. A holosun 512c-gd. The gold circle/dot just really pops to my eyes. Spikes snowflake lower, magpul prs lite stock, daniel defense pistol grip, lancer alien green mag, strike industries enhanced lpk, armaspec silent capture buffer system, and a tac-con 3mr trigger. The 3mr is a third mode trigger. 3rd mode is positive/forced reset.

I'd like to get a sling and maybe a wml for it. But I love it.

This one is a Zro Delta Critical .223 wylde upper. An APF folding lower, cmmg lpk, rise armament flat 140 trigger, daniel defense pistol grip, luth mba5 buttstock. No optic on it currently. Want to swap the upper to a 6.5 grendel. Thought a 18"-20" 6.5g with the folding lower would be nice. Love the flat ra-140 trigger. Gives it a nice crisp 3lb pull.

APF folding lower looks identical to the Shield Arms and (now defunct) 17 Design. Didn't know about APF until your posting. IMHO, they're all made by the same factory with different branding applied. Shield Arms? Someone else? Haven't been able to sort that one out. 17 Design came and went in a very short time. They were being carried under license with their branding on them. I've got a 17 Design folding lower, and two lowers with a Law Tactical. Upside is shorter length than a lower with a Law Tactical, slightly lighter weight (if that's a consideration), and not having to pull a plug out of the BCG to do a takedown. Upside of the Law Tactical is they're built like a brick outhouse and they use a standard carbine buffer versus a proprietary one. (My opinion about Sylvan Arms would be nothing but asterisks on this forum). I've seen all the GunTubers dramatically slapping these folders open in their TactiCool videos. Hard on the mechanism and lower, no matter who made them.

Have you found the folding lower practical and useful?

Not really. Lol. I wanted it because it was slightly shorter in length vs a folding adaptor. Mine generally just sit in safe or rifle bag. So a pactical use, not yet. Once I get a 18"-20" 6.5grendel upper, then the folding lower would still allow it to go in my rifle bag. I could really only see it's practical use if you wanted to build a backpack gun. Folding lower with brace and a short barreled pistol upper?

16 inch .350 Legend upper build on a pistol lower (all of my lowers are intentionally created as "pistol" lowers)

    Upper:

    • Ballistic Advantage 16" .350 Legend Hanson barrel; carbine length gas port
    • Smith Industries Vortex flash suppressor (9mm)
    • Next Level Armament DLC Bolt Carrier Group and Bolt from 4140ph Steel
4140ph is a hard steel alternative to the others more commonly used in bolt carriers and bolts
Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) provides an extremely hard and very slick, wear resistant coating
    • 15" Aero Precision Atlas handguard -- with BA Logic branding
    • Aero Precision upper receiver -- with BA branding
    • MaTech Mil-Spec rear and Troy Industries Mil-Spec front BUIS
    • Romeo7 Red Dot primary optic
    • M16A2 era black "Silent" Sling (found new as Army surplus); these replaced the noisy OD green "M1" slings.
    • Magpul QD attach point on handguard and QD sling adapters
    Lower:
    • 7075-T6 Forged without trigger guard
    • Magpul anodized aluminum enhanced trigger guard
    • Aero Precision Lower Parts Kit (sans trigger control group, trigger guard and pistol grip)
    • Geissele G2S two-stage trigger
    • F.A.B. Defense folding pistol grip
    • Law Tactical folding stock adapter
    • LWRCI UCIW (Ultra-Compact Individual Weapon) buffer system and stock (see notes about UCIW stock)
    C-Product Duramag magazines.
Bore sighted the BUIS and red dot at 25 meters with sights set for 300 meters; close enough until it gets rifle range time.

    DSC08176.JPG

    UCIW Buffer and Stock Notes:
    • Stock is shorter than Mil-Spec and MUST be removed when lower is used on pistol uppers
    • Buffer tube is shorter than Mil-Spec with 5 adjustment holes
    • When combined with Law Tactical, length of pull range is about the same as Mil-Spec stock and buffer without Law Tactical
    • Stock butt pad is slightly smaller than Mil-Spec and otherwise about the same padding (or lack thereof)

16 inch 5.56 NATO "A4 Style" budget build upper on pistol lower (all of my lowers are intentionally created as "pistol" lowers)

This is a "budget build". The price was right (heavily discounted) for the 16" 5.56 NATO PSA upper. Had most of the rest of the parts sitting in the parts bin, accumulated from other builds and upgrades, including MaTech Mil-Spec rear sight, BCG, Charging Handle, and Romeo7S red dot. Has some resemblance to the M16A4 without attempting to be a "clone". The mid-length gas systems have softer recoil compared to the carbine, and position the bayonet lug for proper bayonet mounting with the muzzle ring positioned correctly over the flash suppressor. Was tempted to replace the A2 flash suppressor with a Smith Industries Vortex, but the cost of one would have pulled this one out of the "budget build" category.

    Upper:
    • PSA "Freedom" 16" Nitride mid-length gas upper, without BCG or Charging Handle
      • "Heavy" 16" barrel (vs. Pencil or Mil-Spec)
      • "A2" style hand guards
      • "A2" type front sight post & gas block with bayonet lug
      • "A2" type flash suppressor
    • Toolcraft DLC Bolt Carrier Group with 9130 Steel Bolt
    • Aero Precision Charging Handle
    • MaTech Mil-Spec rear BUIS
    • Romeo7S Red Dot main optic on Monstrum Tactical low profile Picatinny Riser Mount with Quick Release
    • M1 Sling (M1, M14 & M16A1 era); used M16A1s with this type sling during the 1970's.
    Lower:
    • 6061-T6 Machined Billet with Integral Trigger Guard
    • Aero Precision Lower Parts Kit (sans trigger control group, trigger guard and pistol grip)
    • Aero Precision Nickel Boron coated Two-Stage Trigger Control Group
    • Ballistic Advantage A2 Mil-Spec Pistol Grip
    • Aero Precision Mil-Spec Enhanced Buffer Kit (enhanced buffer tube, spring and carbine buffer)
    • Magpul ASAP Ambidextrous QD sling attachment point receiver end plate (one QD point; no wings)
    • Aero Precision M4 Sliding Stock (see notes about pistol lower)
    Magpul PMag magazines
Bore sighted iron sights and red dot at 25 meters with MaTech set for 300 meters; close enough until it gets rifle range time.

    DSC08179.JPG

    Stock Notes:
    • Aero Precision M4 Sliding Stock MUST be removed when pistol lower is used on pistol uppers; it stays with the 16" upper.

My Windham 20" govt model ready for the XTC and MR comps. Yah, I know, the sling's on backwards. It was late and I was tired when I took the picture.
Please pardon the funky grip. I don't live in a free state. This allows me to keep the standard mag release.

Odd, so if you use one of those grips you don't have to have a bullet button thing?

It's not a bullet button thing. They're not legal any more, of and by themselves. You must have the rifle "featureless" ( fin grip, no forward grip, no flash hider) to retain the stock mag release. If you want the unencumbered pistol grip, the mag itself must be affixed in such a way that the upper has to be opened from the lower in order to change it.
