You're right about one thing-abomination- they're both abominations. Soulless abominations
I think the new 'High Power' is well thought out. I'm not sure what people were expecting but I think if you just think of it as an evolution then it makes more sense. It really is a different gun that just pays some homage to the original. It would be silly for FN to bring back a 100 year old gun as is, they weren't even selling the last 20 years of their production. Not being a plastic striker fired they would already face a challenge in todays market so they had to do some updates which they did, higher capacity to compete with current guns, nice sights, cerakote finish, good trigger, updated the barrel locking system etc. If they did just bring back a standard HP everybody would just complain anyway about the price or how their T or C series is still better blah blah. If you're a stalwart fan of the old design there's millions of them out there, or just get a SA-35 which has some slight but important updates.

I don't see the value in just replicating what Browning/FN had already done. HP's aren't rare, there's millions of them, you can just buy an original? They need to come out with a variation that has the mods done that people put on their HP's, modern sights, no mag safety, good thumb safety, maybe a front strap treatment, beveled mag well etc. If after all the conjecture it turns out to be a new HP it'll likely be a rebranded import, maybe the Girsan (?), SPFD should order them with no sight cuts and cut Novaks that alone would ensure they sold pretty well.

If I can find a used one of the new version that was affordable or at least a price that I could stomach I would certainly run it through its paces. But I'm not paying the market prices on one of those now. That's a bit much

What happened to them, years ago when they went to the 1500 they were my first stop as they usually had a big inventory and the lowest prices.
They can still have some great deals when they want to since they are also a distributor. But they can be like cheaper than dirt. First sign of a run and they inflate their prices.

Actually they cranked up MSRP to $799 from what I see on the springfield site: https://www.springfield-armory.com/sa-35-series-handguns/sa-35-handguns/sa-35-9mm-handgun/

Got mine well below that and it's one of my favorites, as I had always wanted a Hi-Power.
I see that new MSRP, I wonder when that happened? So now all those guns that were selling at MSRP or a bit over are actually under MSRP, that's one way to offset price gouging I guess. I wonder if they raised the wholesale price too?

I got mine from a seller here in the classifieds. He didn't care for it so we worked out a deal. I keep holding out for someone way to get rid of their used one for what I want to do was just turn it into a two-tone. But I wouldn't be opposed to finding a new one sitting in a display case at a local dealer if the price was right.

What I don't understand is why the supply is still low. My go to local guy says he can't get one from Springfield. He can't get one from his distributors. I have not seen one in a display case locally at any gun shop in the last year.

When I saw one in the case at one of my semi local gun stores, they had told me that they had kind of lost track of it under some other inventory until another one had come in after the price increase and that they had it priced well below the previous msrp. Said it was their policy to not jack up prices on existing inventory if msrps went up. I actually then offered him a bit less than he had it priced and he took it. Kind of cool because he easily could have increased the price to take the new msrp into consideration and definitely could have refused my offer, but I think he figured as long as he wasn't losing money and had a customer in front of him, he was good.
