Good score! The 88 is solid, and dependable! you can find a sling that holds extra shells, but I wouldn't get more than 10 loops. The weight is transferred to the nylon sling and they offset your balance a little. Maybe a mount to the stock with a look at Fleabay under shotgun ammo holders?
Good luck, and enjoy. Plenty of stopping with a 20ga! Some type of mounted light in case of an evening scenario?
Thanks for the advice. Actually, I have a flashlight and mount for it due to be delivered today! :)

No you can't. I love mine, but my 930 has a light on it, and I prefer a mounted light for a defensive weapon.
Actually, I prefer an AR, but...

I love the double barrel coach guns. They just look great.
Ever since I watched Stagecoach the John Wayne movie I have wanted one. I was around 7-8 and dad let me stay up one night to watch it. It was a big deal to me, and I still remember sitting on his lap watching that great old movie.

I believe it was the War Wagon for me, and later Big Jake.

    Gotta love them Greeners!

The next thing I am on the lookout for to add to my collection is a shotgun for home defense. Probably leaning towards a pump action with a pistol grip 20 gauge. Maybe a 12. And it would have to be on the inexpensive side. Really inexpensive. I am not experienced with shotguns but have been doing some research. Also, I’m not a big person so would need to be manageable.

I can’t believe I just missed the giveaway!!

Any suggestions for a good quality inexpensive shotgun?? Thanks
I scored a basic Savage 5+1 12 gauge for $62 on gunbroker today. It’s probably not the best option but for the money, I couldn’t resist it.

I got a Benelli SuperNova and I do enjoy it. Even my die-hard Mossberg friend admitted that it was a great shotgun.

I don't mean to start a war, and these are not my words, but I was told that "The only shotguns worth keeping start with B: Benelli, Beretta, and Browning." I got them as a young city boy asking for advice from a old country sage who used shotguns for everything.

Nice 930, I really like that model.

When we went to NRAAM in Indy a few weeks ago, my goal was to hold the new Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical, the Savage Reneguage, and the Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. All I can say is wow, I'd be happy with any of them.

The 940 has the optics cut already and feels great. The A300 looks sharp as well but won't have optics cut until next year; or so a Beretta product specialist said. The Savage has a nice built in cheek riser and cool black/grey color combo.

Problem is...none of these are in stock locally...and I won't pay elevated GB prices!

In clays "Buy a B gun" still holds true , though the scary thing is those are "entry level" generally and the sky is the limit on price. That being said I only have one shotgun and I absolutely love my Browning 725, though I could not reccomend it for home defense. :abused:

12 gauge Partner Pump is dependable and is inexpensive. I gave mine to my son.
    I now have a 113year old double barrel 12gauge coach gun. 20230408_131049.jpg

The SuperNova was considered "one of their cheaper models" too, I was lucky Cabela's had a special on them + military discount + old gift card brought that price down. I've hunted with people who climbed out of a beater truck worth less than the "B-brand" shotgun they were carrying. My next buy will probably be the Beretta A300.

Beretta didnt have the 300 out then and I wasn't gonna beat up a 1301.
    So went w a Stoeger M3000.
Had to change stock, pad and trigger springs.
Last item is a Benelli extractor.
No issues so far. But it being of Turkish manufacture has me wondering.
My shoulder was messed up so didn't attempt any sort of TFBTV burndown LOL

This class is happening in less than 24 hours as I post this, but I recommend both MALC for firearms/self defense/medical training and this shotgun class in particular. I found operating a shotgun for personal defense required a new set of skills.

Avoid pistol grip, you're just putting all the recoil into your hand/wrist vs letting your shoulder take it. If you're of smaller stature, a youth model 20g is often a good choice. Load with any weight buck shot (note buck, not bird), reduced recoil is fine if you can get it, call it a day. It's not something you need to overthink. I've never had anyone discharge their shotgun and lose a home invasion, as long as they fired it before getting in a wrestling match ove the gun.

I'd recommend stopping by Falls City Firearms since you're by Louisville. Rick is the owner and operator/sole employee. He's honest to a fault, will not sell you something that you can't handle, and often has a rack of older used shotguns on the cheaper end of things.

Address is: 141 E Maple Ct #100, Clarksville, IN 47129
    I owe you $20
