The thread about Expat Hoosiers brought up the topic of "What do you miss from Indiana?" for those who have moved away.

I ask a similar question: For those who moved from elsewhere into Indiana, what do you miss about your former state or former area?

I lived in the Chicago suburbs for over 40 years before moving to southern Indiana in 2021.

    What I miss from Chicagoland:
I have several good friends, that I miss seeing frequently. (But that really has nothing to do with Chicagoland.)
I miss Giordano's and Lou Malnati's Deep Dish Pizza. (I often drive over 3 hours round-trip to Indianapolis, which is the closest place with any good Chicago pizza.)
I miss Turano bakery's French Rolls. (I never realized that French rolls were a Chicago thing and was shocked that no-one carries them here.)
(Honorable mention to Portillo's and Jewel-Osco)

I have thus exhausted the list of everything I miss about Illinois and about the Chicago area.

Chicago burbs transplant who misses the food and “things to do”.

Hot dogs, real hot dogs. Gene & Judes my fave. Buono Beef! Real pizza (Rosati’s and such). Mexican food: monster burritos and the same.

Jewel Osco is ok but Mariano’s was the best. Pete’s in Villa Park was pretty good.

Do I miss the old neighborhood enough to go back? NOPE! Love Indiana.

When I left, I missed that neighborly privacy you received. In Chicago, they don’t care about you, and are jerks. Nc everyone was in everyone’s business but at least they were nice. Indiana people mind their own business but are still kind and relatively pleasant. Although I can’t speak for Indy… just my 30 years in and around Lafayette.

    Lafayette, IN
All the things I miss about Chicago are similar to the things I miss about Gary, IN. The common factor is that none of them exist anymore.

All the good things have been destroyed by lefty politicians who have consistently built an army of destructive criminals whose votes they can easily buy.

Sadly, I see all of the signs of Lafayette becoming another city transitioning to a democrap hell hole. I hope to be pushing up daisies before having to move and abandon my hard earned property, again.

Originally from El Paso, Texas. I miss the real Mexican food. I also lived just out of town in the desert and miss being able to get on my dirt bike and take off through the desert straight from the house. Other than that, it sucks out there and I have no desire to return.

    Near the big river.
Grew up in Western NY, Jamestown. AJ's Texas Hots. My dad took me there when it was under the viaduct in Brooklyn Sqaure. They still have them but in different a place. Beef on Weck sandwiches.

It is a s**thole now. Haven't been back since my parents passed away. The county, Chautauqua, has the highest payout for welfare and it has gone from a major manufacturing area, tools - Port and Crescent tools, MRC bearings and high end wood furniture, to a wasteland.
Taxes and restrictions from the state caused everything to move 20 miles to Pennsylvania.
