The truth is @mrmiller21 is trying to goad members into name calling and such that will force the mods to give those members a time out like he got. He is doing it by attacking our deeply and sincerely held beliefs in a mocking but allowed way.

DO NOT TAKE HIS BAIT! Be careful not to call names or anything that might get you suspended. That us the goal of all these threads…

Or use these threads to revive your zeal, and educate the uneducated about the right to ownership of arms.

Why is it that many gun owners cannot have a thoughtful discussion re more stringent controls on gun ownership? Are some of you really thinking that you will be grabbing your AR and going to war against the US government? We do all understand that WE are the government in this country, right? The majority is designed to determine the direction of the country (with the exception of the absurdly silly Electoral College. I recommend everyone read the history of and reasons for the EC to help understand why it should have never happened and should be dismantled today. If I called anyone a name in this post, it was not my intention.

OP…read the 2nd amendment. Sound out every syllable and understand the meaning of the words.

    Therein lies your answer.

Because it is easier to infringe upon a right incrementally than outright deny it.
Because a few anti gunners have let it slip that the ultimate goal is total ban on guns.
Because we watch what is going on in Canada and other nations that they started off banning the "evil" guns and kept expanding the definition of evil guns.
Because a forest is cut down 1 tree at a time.
    Because we learned history.

Come on Guys....This "individual" gets his (sexual) gratification by posting and then sitting back and reading the reactions he gets from the membership. It is his way of feeling superior by getting others stirring the pot, so to speak. Want to get rid of him? Just don't respond! Nothing looks more stupid than seeing a post with absolutely zero responses. Just my two cents.

Okay, I'll play on this one, too. And, again: why did you delete your OP?

Why do you think we need to have a "thoughtful discussion re more stringent controls on gun ownership"? What's the purpose of that discussion? What do you hope to accomplish through more stringent controls on gun ownership?

Are some of you really thinking that you will be grabbing your AR and going to war against the US government?
Wait: didn't you argue in your other thread from this morning that the AR15 is a "weapon of war"? Which is it: a weapon of war, or useless against the government? It can't be both - yet the people who take your position keep insist on turning the AR15 into Schrodinger's Gat: both things simultaneously.

We do all understand that WE are the government in this country, right? The majority is designed to determine the direction of the country...
Nope. We are a nation of laws, not a nation of mob rule. The Constitution (including the bill of rights) puts constraints upon the majority, to ensure that the majority cannot become tyrannical and infringe upon the rights of the minority.

...(with the exception of the absurdly silly Electoral College. I recommend everyone read the history of and reasons for the EC to help understand why it should have never happened and should be dismantled today.
This hatred of the Electoral College is a Shibboleth for "I have no clue how a constitutional republic of sovereign states works."

If I called anyone a name in this post, it was not my intention.
    Sure, Jan.

This thread really does show the failure of the public education system, and the liberal mentality of many in our country. We are not the governing body. The United States is not a democracy. I hear this stated as fact from the vast majority of people under 30, and many of the liberal politicians who are trying to limit our freedoms. Democracies are destined for failure. Democracies are eventually plagued with favoritism and unfairness because they resort to mob rule. Unfortunately, we have seen many of these issues creeping into our society in recent history, and I feel that it is due in part to the notion that is being proclaimed that our country is a Democracy.

Our nation was formed as a Constitutional Republic. Our representatives are elected democratically.

If my post made anyone feel like an ignorant buffoon who doesn't understand the Constitution, that was not my intention.

I will simply add it is not "one nation indivisible".
