Not really a gun issue but this is not good
SB335 is an attempt by the Indiana Forestry Alliance to give big to hikers and take public land away from hunters, fishermen and trappers. A group that spends nothing on conservation (hikers) versus the hook and bullet crowd. I suspect some palms are getting greased on this one.

Well, my writing has begun for the year.

I plagiarized @KellyinAvon mercilessly on HB1117 and HB1261 to Representative McNamara.

I also wrote to my new Representative, Becky Cash, with a list of "Support" and "Oppose" proposed legislation.

We shall see what transpires. My highest focus is on fixing Nantz Vs. State, but several other Bills are either very supportable, or must be opposed.

I'm hoping something eventually spills out of the bill regarding a ban on the state facilitating unconstitutional Federal firearm law enforcement that forbids any state officer or employee, or any state, county or local law enforcement officer or agency from assisting or aiding BATFE enforcing the NFA or GCA.

Received a response from my new State Rep. Part of her response included "...I assure you that I will be supporting.1117 authored by Rep Sweet. I am very familiar with that legislation."

I am encouraged by her response and my previous interactions with her.

Sent email to both my Representative and Senator expressing my expectation they will support House Bill 1117. Awaiting response which I hope will arrive some time this next week.

Anything to get worked up over this year?
    Give me the Executive Summary....

HB 1117 is nice yes.. but I am sure in practice the feds and the ATF goons will just laugh at it.

Anyway to get that silly Chinese Throwing Star thing amended just to completely repeal that statute?

    Just saw this online:

“As of right now, over 61 percent of U.S. counties are “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.” That means that over three-fifths of all the counties in the country have put into place resolutions (or specific pieces of legislation) making it such that they will protect the Second Amendment against all encroachments by the federal government.”

Included a map and Indiana had very few counties in that category. Maybe this should be on the legislative agenda for the future?

Dear [state senator, state rep, chairman of House Ways & Means Committee]:

Today I am writing to voice my support for this year's HB1347. 1347 allows tax credits for firearms training and safety storage devices like gun safes. The more people trained with firearms we have, the safer our communities are and the fewer the accidents, especially with children, we will have. This is common sense non-partisan legislation.

Please support HB1347. I thank you for your time.

I have a question, HB1486, Indy Star states: "would require people convicted of a domestic violence crimes to surrender their firearms within 72 hours. The bill spells out potential misdemeanor and felony charges those who don't surrender their weapons could face, as well as what conditions would be needed for any confiscated firearms to be returned. "

Is it not the case that someone convicted of domestic violence has to get rid of their guns? Or is this an attempt to close that part of other laws?

    I ask because I don't know.

The Indy Star has a write up of the gun bills that are up this year. I think Kelly did a better job of summaries, but for those that don't remember here is the link: Indy Star Gun Bills 2023 It may require a login.
Thanks for the props Haven. Doing better than the staff at the Indy Star is a low bar, but I'll take the props. ;)
