That's not a bad reference. I like it. I usually call them militant atheists. But evangelical atheist is probably more accurate. Nearly all atheists I've encountered have utter contempt for religious people. I think that is what makes them atheist as an identity more than just mere disbelief. They can't just not believe without digging their nails in. It's like they want their disbelief to hurt. PaulF was like that.
I use the same term (evangelical atheist). However, I don't think that subset represents the entire population of atheists. Rather, they are merely the most vocal. In my experience (so, anecdotally), most atheists are "live and let live" types.

No. I don't think it's the majority of atheists. I should have said nearly all the atheists I've encountered who have to tell me they're atheists without me having asked them.

I think most non-believers are casual atheists. Their atheism doesn't come up much in conversation. But it's the evangelical atheists who make a point of it in a given conversation.

He was toxic to most of INGO. I imagine that to a lot of INGO lefties, he is missed.
I had more than a few bouts with him. But I will say that getting to know a person (face-to-face) changes things. I had the opportunity to meet PaulF and we got to know each other a little bit, beyond text on a screen. Afterwards, not that we agreed on the topics we previously disagreed on, but the level of vitriol was magnitudes lower.

I miss getting to go to the meet-and-greets that used to be fairly common with this group.

Yet he melted down enough to get banned. Maybe he should have met more INGOers.

Here's an idea. Get rid of all mods. Put a hammer button on each post. If a member gets a ratio of ban hammers to posts > 50%, he/she is automatically banned. No way that could get abused. It would be like an ingocracy.

I'll just show myself out the door now.

You’ve never been on the recieving end of a net-rep attack. Maybe INGO is full of better angels now than it was when I first joined up…but I doubt it. ;)

I used to be kind of like that.

    Man, I was an idiot.

Poor PaulF, he had difficulty separating his opinion/agenda from the job he was supposed to do.

PaulF was a nice guy in person that I met with a few times at get togethers. He didn't realize it at the time, but he told on himself when he looked me in the eye and said he would have banned me a long time ago had we not both been motorcycle riders. :n00b:

Again, I like PaulF. However in the end, the way he intentionally got himself banned says a lot about whether he should really have ever had the mod job in the first place. :twocents:

Agreed. I have known both types. The LALL type you usually don't even know their beliefs unless a conversation about it comes up. The EA type won't stop telling you about it. Kinda like crossfit. And pineapple pizza
