I’m looking to purchase my first do everything gun. I’m someone who hunts and camps often and am looking for something to also daily carry. I have interest in a Glock 30s due to the reliability and simplicity of the gun. I’d like to hear others input on the situation. Thank you.

Just here waiting on the g***k hate, that thread title ought to bring ‘em’

There’s a lot of great guns out there, but my experience is that there is no perfect one gun. It’s always ‘just one more’.
I have no brand loyalty. I’m just looking for something practical and relatively inexpensive and when you plug those in you usually get recommended a Glock.

you just need to try some out. The Glock 30s sounded really good, I got one but it hurt my trigger finger. So I got rid of it.

To me a handgun is just a tool. It's like a cordless drill that drills 9mm sized holes in things very quickly. When I need to drill a hole I just want something that works, and I don't care if it's from Harbor Freight or a Hilti. That being said, I bought my first Glock about 20 years ago and have been a huge fan since then. I own several of them now, along with a bunch of other striker fired polymer framed handguns, but Glocks are still my favorite.

There are a lot of guns out there now that are just as reliable as a Glock and there are guns that are as cheap and even cheaper than Glocks. There are guns that have almost as many aftermarket parts and accessories as Glocks, but in my opinion all the circles on the Venn diagram intersect on the Glock brand.

My 2-cents worth. I bought my first Glock about a year ago. It was the full-size .45 ACP Glock 21. Short version: Best shooting .45 ACP I've ever handled. Slightly longer version: I've been shooting 1911-style pistols since the US Army put one in my hand in 1974. I've shot a bunch of them. Full size, Commander, Officer sizes. As they get smaller, they get harder to control. LLama, Rock Island, Colt, Para-Ordnance, Sig-Sauer, AMT, Kimber, and likely others. I have not fired any of the $2500+ race guns, for whatever that's worth. I like .45 ACP. I like 1911s. Sometime in 2021, I rented a G21 from a local range. It was love at first grip. The G21 is 14-rounds of heaven in one hand. It fits my hands, perfectly. At this point, I had not fired it yet. After the first magazine (14 rounds of .45!) I was hooked. I immediately purchased a brand new not-shiny Glock 21. After shooting it, I think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It is by far the easiest to control .45 ACP pistol I've ever fired. It is the lowest perceived-recoil .45 I have ever fired. It fits me like a glove. It just plain stays on target, even in rapid fire. I can put more rounds on target, faster, and more accurately, than I ever thought possible. I no longer own a 1911.

If the G30s is anything like the G21, and several reviewers say it is, you will love it. Rent one before you buy. Oh, it may interest you that my 13 y.o. grandson loves it, too. He mainly shoots his mom's Sig P365. He finds the G21 easier to control, and to shoot well. Makes sense to me.

[Sidebar: At one time I owned a Para-Ordnance P14. It was fat. It was hard to control. On its last day of life, something failed... miserably. It went full-auto on me. Just as it registered what was happening, it exploded. The top half of the gun went down range. I went to the ER for a tetanus shot and 7 stitches. All in all, I was happy to be rid of the gun, and happy to still have both eyes. A guntopsy was never performed. The failure could quite possibly have been, and most likely was, my fault. I regularly completely dis-assembled my 1911s.]

I am a Glock guy, I have tried or owned ALOT of handguns for EDC over the years and I always came back to Glocks, simply because I shoot them the best. That said, Glocks are not the end all be all. They are not for everyone. With so many options out there now, there is no excuse not to try several different brands so you can make an informed decision.
I have had the Glock 21's in Gen2, 3 and 4, a couple Glock 30's (both Gen3) and a 41 and they have all been solid, accurate guns. The G21 was my favorite of them all.

This is very sound advice. No one knows how you will like a certain handgun. Find a range that rents guns and try a number of different ones.

There is no one handgun to rule them all. Glocks are popular, prevalent and have tons of aftermarket support, which is needed because out of the box they aren't great. Nothing wrong with them, if you like them and shoot them well, but there are other options that are as good or better. I would suggest renting a variety of guns and shoot them, research them online and buy what meets your needs the best.

Welcome to the forum. Is there a reason you want 45 ACP? I've been carrying and shooting Glocks for years and used to be a fan of the 45 GAP guns. I'm very comfortable with 9MMs now and recently ventured into the PSA Dagger arena. Dagger is a Gen 3 clone that I feel has some well thought out improvements and is priced at 60% of a Glock, that is now my EDC.. PM me if you want more info on a Dagger and I would be happy to meet at a local range and let run a few rounds through one.
But what ever you decide, as others have said, get to a range and put some rounds down range before spending hard earned $$$$.

I like Glock primarily for the compatibility of parts among the different pistols with the same caliber. Mags in particular. I got started on the brand early on and have invested a lot in people getting out of .40 mags in particular, so here I am. A case full of mags and a couple boxes of rounds.

But there are several other good options. Just look for the best deal. IMO Striker fired pistols are all basically the same if you get a good brand. Stay away from Taurus, SCCY, HiPoint, Etc. I'd probably avoid KelTech for a daily carry gun too.
