Now it sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of it. Don't be a negative nelly.
    If you don't have a 10, you need a 10.

    Still need more reasons?
    It angers the Poors.
it angers millennials with their famous lack of grip strength.
    You're an enabler. :wavey:

So today we made our every so often trip to Sam‘s Club, I have the bright idea let’s stop by the lgs to check their class schedule for Tennessee Permit class, yes they are old school No on line schedule or sign up. Well we confirmed that they offer a one day class and they do not have a minimum age.

Great now here comes the problem. I take a glance over the display case and there it is a Dan Wesson specialist In 10mm. So I figured why not at least handle it. Very impressive so now I want one. Only question is to go for 10mm or the more affordable option of 9mm

    Thoughts?
    10mm.. Everyone has a 9mm. Well mostly.

In 45's defense it's just a really low pressure round compared to most other modern pistol calibers IMHO.

So it’s all steel? In a Government Frame, yeah that must be enjoyable to shoot. Trying real hard to find a reason not to pick one up.
@wcd sorry, I missed this comment last evening. Yes, the frame and slide are steel, no alloy. Even with the commander, the all-steel setup does a nice job soaking up recoil.

Other than for a range toy, I just don't get 9mm in an 1911. I mean, it's the handgun equivalent of a drag queen to me. A 1911 is supposed to be in .45 ACP. Or .38 Super. 10mm actually has more business being in a 1911 platform than 9mm, as the 10mm was envisioned as an improvement over .45 ACP by Col. Jeff Cooper, a noted advocate of the 1911 platform.

I'm not really a 1911 guy, so maybe I'm off base on this. But I carried one in the army, and plan on buying a couple in the future. Not for carry, just for range fun and general enjoyment of owning them. They will be in .45 ACP. For the same reason that if I ever buy a Dodge Challenger, it will not be the V6 model.

I can't imagine not having one in 10mm.

    and 9mm

    and 38 super

    and, of course, 45 acp.

The real question being asked here is not which one to buy but which one to buy first.

9mm is the more practical. 10mm is, well, bigger, louder and harder hitting, If you reload, 10mm in a great cartridge.

If you monitor ammo cost - 9mm is the way to go.

If they would offer it in a double stack 2011 configuration I’d be all over a DW in 9mm. Single stack 9’s don’t make much sense to me… but I think that’s simply because 2011’s exist.

    Anyone remember the DWX concept?

I think to be fair, frugality has left the building if we're talking Dan Wesson 1911 money.

    :)

All this talk of 9mm 1911's and frugality and such. This thread needs some inspiration. Frugality had plumb left the building when I saw this DW. I would have bought it in a 9mm (which it is). I would have bought it in a 10, or 38, or 45, or 357 Sig, or ...,

Only problem I have is it's too purdy to put in a carry rotation. But I still might, it shoots so good

Oh no frugality has not left the building, it’s years of being frugal, and never finding that Vickers Masterclass or buying the Wilson Combat my wife signed off on that has taken it from impulse to going to buy one.

Sounds like you were impressed with the Dan Wesson. Same thing happened to me. Once I handled one of their 1911's in a gunshop, I knew I had to own one.

I'm a 9mm guy so that helped narrow it down. I went with the Valor commander in duty treat. Later added a Valkrie CCO which ended up being a little short in the grip so I sold it.

These pistols are fantastic shooters. If you get one my guess would be you will want to shoot it a lot. 9mm helps with that.

If you want a Vickers or Wilson, why are you looking to buy a DW? Go buy what you want. A custom 1911 is not going to lose much, if any value over the years. A man works hard all of his life, he deserves to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
