Big problem I have seen over the years is simply name recognition - period.
This can cut both ways, if they go too far that recognition can backfire. If they are doing pretty much what the average voter wants it is a winner for them. At the end of the day Young seems to have approval of the majority of his constituents. That most of us are farther to the right will not affect him much.

Any of you been hearing about the leftists supporting conservative and libertarian independent candidates to siphon off support form the republicans or they may support a moderate to siphon off votes from a conservative republican. I have seen a few of these lately. They are using the folks feelings against them…

Regarding incumbents, they are massively hard to dislodge, like drunk relatives at the end of the evening.

Big problem I have seen over the years is simply name recognition - period. Once they're in everyone knows who they are. A larger group voted them in once, and that larger group tends to stay larger than the other group. So... unless they really anger their own people AND the opposition doesn't put up their own extremist, the incumbent remains.

Regrettably, most times now the democrats put up extreme liberals and republicans put up extreme conservatives, so nobody on either side is willing to chance it on the "other guy."

Add to this Gerrymandering and the problem becomes even harder to solve.

Does anyone remember the year we were going to "...throw the bums out." Whole country was mad. Get rid of all the democrats and republicans. ---Highest reelection rate ever! I think it was something like 98.5% retained.

    Regards,

    Doug
Most people say they hate their politician.
    But most politicians get reelected.

It's not limited to the left. Remember "Operation Chaos"?

Yes, because they hate the other team more.

Imagine this hypothetical. You meet a democrat in Nancy Pelosi's district. Would you agree to switch votes with that person? In other words, for them to vote Republican against her and you vote democrat against your republican? Presuming both sides would honor the agreement I doubt you would get very few voters willing to switch.

    Regards,

    Doug

And do you really believe that Young gives a crap about whether he “deserves” your vote and that will teach him ANYTHING? News flash he doesn’t. He will be more likely reelected if he can get the middle independent voters than going farther left.

My vote is not a “reward” but rather a vote for a viable candidate that is the best option to defend my values. He first got elected when the cry was “anyone but Donnelley”. Most of them do not deserve our votes, but we must choose from what is viable and on the ballot. In fact if Young believes he was reelected by more of the left instead of conservatives he may track farther left to keep their votes.
For what it's worth, a slim victory for Young in the year of the red wave, with a sizeable increase in the libertarian take, is likely to at least get his attention. It might even influence his voting pattern. Gotta play the long game man.

In 2012, Congressional approval averaged 15 percent, the lowest in nearly four decades of Gallup polling. And yet, 90 percent of House Members and 91 percent of Senators who sought re-election won last November.

The seeming paradox between the low regard with which people hold Congress and the high rate of re-election of incumbents is explained well by new data released by Gallup on Thursday that points to a simple reality: People hate Congress but (generally) like their Member of Congress.

So again, teaching Young a lesson is worth the risk of electing a democrat?

It may not be Young that learns a hard lesson…

Historically congress has had, at best, a teens approval rate, the typical congressional member usually has a 60% plus approval rate. We always despise other folks congress critters but usually not our own. In a typical year, about 30 seats are toss up’s the others are safe because the majority of their constituents like them.

The first off year after a presidential election results in a move to the party opposite the President. That is where we are this year.

Yep, been reading that data for years.

Do you really thing that would happen in Indiana, in 2022? Come one man. I will say though that six years of Donnelly was worth getting rid of Lugar, although the grim reaper would have taken care of that anyway.

Actually I erred in my memory. Young actually took out Evan Bayh. Bayh and the dems thought he had a seat for the rest of his life and I give Young credit for taking him down.

    Editing original post.

You may be comfortable with a 2% lead in a deep red state in an off-year election with rumblings of a red wave, but I am not. I guess my vote for Young can cancel yours for McDermott. And vice versa. No, absolutely nothing will be worth 6 years of that ******* rubber-stamping lefty agenda and SCOTUS nominees.

With this currant administration and the far left policies can we afford to take the chance on voting for a Democrat just to get Young out of office to elect a real conservative six years from now ?
The amount of damage done in the first two years will take decades to overcome if at all. Can we afford to have a Chuck Schumer leading the Senate again ?
