I had one in a '73 Plymouth Satellite that was Dad's old work car. It would get up and go!
My buddies dad had an old half ton, I think it was a 77 or something like that, they put a wood flatbed on it to use around the farm. He let us take it and run around. That thing would do a killer burn out! We also got to work off two new tires

Bought a Ram 2500 CTD in 2000 and put 350K on it, replaced the injector pump which was an issue with that model. Retired it to farm truck status and bought a Ford 250 in 20, gas engine only needed one battery and it's much quieter. Before the RAM I had a 92 F150 that I put 300K on replacing one long block. I don't drive near the miles these days.

I was asking specifically about the Toyota.

No joke on the cameras. They are incredible. Want to hitch a trailer by yourself? You can see the ball and the trailer hitch and a guide line. Want to spot yourself off road? You can see exactly where that rock or stump is on the passenger side. Going up a steep incline on the trail and all you see is hood and sky? Now you can see the other side of the crest before going over. Need to do a 3 point turn on a shelf road? Even Gladiators have forward facing cameras for that now. Need to back out of a face in curb spot and can't see over the truck next to you? Now you can. Yeah, it's not much use in day to day, but it is very useful when you're in those sorts of situations, and I intend to be offroad and alone quite a bit. Hence camera system and winch, just in case.

GM skid plate package is a joke. I crawled under an AT4 and the plates are thin, don't cover several critical components, and the gas tank is plastic and completely unprotected. Tremor is better, but neither is as good as the Raptor and Power Wagon.

No GM truck has a disconnecting anti-sway bar.

You can't "lock all 4 wheels" except with the ZR2. You can put it in 4wd, but there is no option for a front locker and only an automatic eaton or a limited slip in the rear. No selectable lockers. You can't lock the transfer case, period, even in the ZR2. GM's transfer case is garbage if you plan to actually off road it, at least in the 1500s. Clutch lock only, it overheats, and decides you should be in 2WD now. If you're just driving in snow or whatever, it'll do you fine. I want to go places and do things with this truck that would overheat the GM. Watch some of the guys in Colorado and California who suddenly find themselves in 2WD because their transfer case is too hot. Ram Rebel with the "auto" function will do the same, but the ones without "auto" mechanically lock.

Same gas milage as the Power Wagon on the highway, smaller gas tank, no optional larger one. 6.2L is a strong motor and I like the interior of the current Chevy/GMC trucks but no way I want to road trip one or take it off road.

The 2024 Canyon looks cool, but I don't think I'd like the turbo 4. The underbody camera is a sweet idea, though.
Just going to pick bits out of this^
Current truck is a GMC AT4, rides nice seats 5 comfortably.
Have had it on a few road trips. 1st was to the U.P. I think I averaged 24 mpg on the trip. While not serious off reading. I did take it on the ORV trails in a couple of spots to get to some of the light houses out on Lake Superior. It did fine.
It has been to Georgia 2x's . Last one was a month ago. Again a very comfortable ride, except for the height you'd think you were riding in a car.
Mine is the 5.3 with the 8 speed transmission. The extent of my towing is the occasional utility trailer

When it's quiet, you can hear a Dodge Ram rusting away. Seriously though, I only know two guys who have owned Rams. Both bought them for the "towing capability". Both now drive F150s and are not towing anything. My 2019 F150 XLT 2WD has the tiny 2.7 Ecoboost. Ford claims 325 HP and 400 ft lbs of torque for the latest version. I believe them. It's averaging 24 MPG around town and does slightly better on trips. It is rarely used as a real truck, though. More like a big comfortable car with a huge trunk. Same truck with the bigger Ecoboost, 3.5 I think, would tow better no doubt. 400 HP, 500 ft lbs.

EDIT: If you do go Ford, get the 36 gallon fuel tank. I can get into South Dakota from the south side of Indy without stopping for gas.

I got a guy checking on one out of town for me later this week. Giving it the ol' crawl around under test, etc. If he gives it the thumbs up I'm going to start working price. If it's in as good a condition as I hope and we get to a price I want, I'll buy it. If not, I'll probably just go ahead and order the new one and wait. Already got the nod from my wife as it's not "too used".

Definitely, the big tank comes with the Tremor by default.

I'm not towing, it's not part of my use criteria but many others have thrown it out.

Bought and sold at the same midwest dealership, doubt it's a flood truck but we'll see. It's plenty new enough for an insurance claim, it'd be tough to launder a title this quick anyway.

Truck sold to an online buyer who financed it without ever seeing it in person or driving it. That's braver than I am. The market is so nuts right now dealers won't even take a deposit for a "pending condition confirmation" deal. Whoever bought it *probably* got a very nice truck, but I'm just way too risk averse to not have a personal or independent inspection and finance the whole thing like that.

I've been silly busy at work, no time to find a Tundra. I did see some Tacoma TRD pros on a lot, but I just don't think I'd like the Tacoma for many of the same reasons I didn't like the Gladiator. And I wanted to like the Gladiator.

Bought my last 3 trucks without seeing them. And that’s about 15 yrs. Of trucks. Credit Union had a service that did all the work after getting my requirements. They of corse wanted to sell you the money, they searched for the best deal. I picked them up at the CU.

I’ve heard good things about the Tundra’s but they were bought 3,4,5 years ago. Nothing recent.

I'd go with the 2500HD. I'm not a Dodge or anything else fan.
No long-term turbo and timing chain BS to worry with down the road.
Hopefully you are keeping it in a garage because the Dodges can develop exhaust manifold leaks over time.

Many times issues with vehicles are from the owners lack of maintenance, not necessarily a brand.
For instance, many newer 5.3 GM vehicles have engine and tranny issues. I'm driving a 19 Tahoe with 165k and It's fine,
but had an outstanding maintenance history. I don't baby vehicles at all either.
I test drive 20-50 vehicles a day from every brand. I've found problems with every one of them.
With that said, Toyota/Lexus are the best overall.
    Ram it.
