Rand Paul has been in the senate since 2011. He supported Romney in 2012, competed against Trump in 2016 but supported him after he won the nomination

He has accomplished very little of substance during that time beyond tilting at windmills such as voting against stop gap bills to avert a government shut down which pass anyway. It is hard to tell if he is fighting the good fight when so little gets accomplished, the whole Maverick thing in its own way can be just an excuse to not do much but look good doing it. Say what you like about Trump, he got things done - witness beginning construction of the wall against all opposition from both the progs and most of his own party

Headline from the 1/10/18 edition of The Hill:

Rand Paul: ‘We don’t have money to spend’ for Trump’s border wall

Further more; as part of the debate Ron Paul, who was just as effective in congress as his son, went on to say Trump didn't need a wall to deter immigration - that he should remove incentives to come here. As if that wouldn't take years or need to be accomplished without major, multi-pronged action by the same congress that wouldn't even fund a wall. IMO again he was saying what makes him look good while ensuring nothing is accomplished. Acorn doesn't fall far from the tree

I will take someone who gets **** done, warts and all
Who was the last President who never asked for more money to be spent?
What was the last Congress that never increased the budget?

Was there ever such a President or Congress?

Accomplished nothing good for the country, burnished his image. Another McCain, Maverick only seems able to deliver friendly fire; the other side can just ignore him

I'm pretty sure the budget declined immediately after The Two for about three years. I think after 1948 it started ramping up again due to the Cold War among other things

I also think the budget declined during the depression up until FDR got elected, but not sure that was by choice

He's been there twice as long as Trump! Why hasn't he fixed everything by now?
If you would learn something you would of known he has been calling to audit the fed and to stop the spending.....American Republicans don't want that in a President so they went to Trump.....he gets that **** done. Mexico paid for the wall by the way....right?

So, his alibi is he doesn't have the power or any allies in congress?

Not sure how that is any different from Trump, but Trump got **** done

But we are used to the four percenters feeling that nobody is a real libertarian perfect enough

So who is going to fix it? Nobody. It cannot be fixed. You are in the car with 330 million people of which a few hundred thousand really care about debt, either in their own lives or the government’s, that is hurtling over the precipice. Politicians only do what they must if it is painful in any way. It requires. at minimum, a substantial minority to even start a conversation on this, much less do something. Do you in your wildest dreams believe any significant number of fellow countrymen are willing to live with any austerity measures?

    I do not…

That does make sense, you don't end up with a bucket of carp and suckers if you don't keep hanging bait.

Of course we can bank on the career politicians refusing to do anything that makes sense for the country. They are too busy gorging themselves on taxpayer money and pandering to those who let them do it.

The point being that Trump wisely chose action that he could take unilaterally and immediately over some pie in the sky more sweeping 'solution'

Just think of what would need to be changed to remove the incentives for coming here, how many different bills and votes it would take, how many votes would be needed to pass any of them and how long the problem would fester while all of this was attempted

Like the eternal hunt for the perfect politician, a policy that eschews a practical solution for a 'perfect' one is designed to sound good but never accomplish anything or discomfit its advocate by actually forcing him to do anything but posture before the cameras. They might as well just appoint a committee

I read a article several years ago about why we are allowing illegal immigration.
IIRC it is the fix the democrats are using because they say we are dying.
Between abortion and people programed to have one child families it has taken a toll on our countries birth rate.
So the fix is to allow anyone and everyone in to fix it. That was the gist of the article. I'm not sure how true any of it is though.
Unfortunately I cannot remember the writer of the article or its title.

I have always believed that the heads of industry want cheap labor that is unlikely to unionize, and they fund both sides because they want the border open (to ensure supply) and border jumping to remain technically illegal (to provide the hold over such labor to keep them in their place)

Same reason they ship whatever manufacturing they can to places like China, where control of the laborers is farmed out to the CCP
