I bought a pair of Justins with composite toes last year. I really liked them but the sole started to delaminate after a month. They were returned for a full refund.

Replaced with another pair of Justins from TSC on clearance with steel toes. At first, they were perfect. Then the piping at the tops started to rub my calves raw. I bought some taller boot socks to solve the problem. After a week, all my new taller socks had holes in the big toe area. Replaced those socks with Darn Tough socks. It's taken a few months but now those socks also have holes in the big toes. Darn Tough socks have a lifetime warranty so I'll send them back. The lining on the inside of boots is worn through in the big toe area so it's just socks and toenail against steel.

I've been wearing boots all my life so I know this isn't a fit issue. They fit perfect. Just low quality boots.
Yeah it seems the quality difference between Justin’s lower end/Chinese made boots and their higher end American made boots is quite large.

Consider that boots with leather soles will require treatment if you intend to wear them in wet weather, rain/snow. If the sole isn't treated, the water will soak through the leather and you'll have wet feet.

I've got a pair of Justin with a carbon toe and metatarsal for work and they seem to be pretty good. I've got a few pairs of Dan Post in various colors and skins and a pair of Nacona with rubber soles.

What kind of treatment do you suggest?

You hit the nail on the Head, US made only way to go with them.
.2 cents of great advice. Cheap stuff for the weekend cowboy or girl.. spend the money and get good boots.
I want to try a pair of tecovis but prefer to try them on before I buy.
Double H makes some good all around and I have had several pairs of the dan post work boots last for some time but there quality has gone down hill recently.
Just bought some Ariats to try and so far like them.

I wear a pair of Ariats for work daily. And I count on them for stability, traction and comfort. They have not disappointed. I have had the same pair for over two years and they see some hard use in remote areas. People are not real inclined to put stills out in the open lol.

I'll confess that the only time I've worn cowboy boots was when I was managing a Fayva Shoe store back in the early 80's up in Lafayette. It was just after Urban Cowboy had just come out. I had a couple pair and I did like them after they were broken in (although that didn't take long). They were definitely "goin' to town" boots, not work boots. Whenever I heard "The Rodeo Song" in a bar, you could bet that I'd be out on the dance floor (usually by myself). :lmfao:

To be honest I have a pair of boots that matches a nice holster for the old Barbecue 1911.

Sometimes even I have to look presentable lol.

It wasn't unprecedented for me to have been influenced by pop culture back in the 70s and 80s. I used to wear "press perm baggies and platform soles" (Dire Straits reference) when I worked for Gallenkamp shoes when I was 16-18 years old. :):

An elderly couple, Margaret and Bert, moved to Wyoming, Bert always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots, so, seeing some on sale, he bought them and wore them home.

Walking proudly, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his wife, "Notice anything different about me?" Margaret looked him over, "Nope." Frustrated, Bert stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen completely naked except for the boots.

Again he asked Margaret, a little louder this time, "Notice anything different NOW?" Margaret looked up and said in her best deadpan, "Bert, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it'll be hanging down tomorrow."

Furious, Bert yelled, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT'S HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?" "Nope, Not a clue", she replied. 'IT'S HANGING DOWN, BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!'

Without missing a beat Margaret replied, "Shoulda bought a hat, Bert, Shoulda bought a hat..."

All I own is boots... mostly square toe. I don’t own any tennis shoes... I tried on some Nike shoes.. no go. I’m on my feet at work all day and shopping for a new pair of work shoes/boots. Used wear Keen shoes but it’s been awhile. Cowpokes is a good place to try on and test ride around the store

    Press Perm Baggies??
Oops, I guess I'd heard the lyrics wrong!

"And a crowd of young boys, they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
They don't give a damn about any trumpet-playing band
It ain't what they call "Rock 'n' Roll"
And the Sultans, yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole, Creole"

    (Dire Straits, "Sultans of Swing")
