Thanks for the tip! Never used brake cleaner but definitely happy to try, as this has been the nastiest milsurp I've ever cleaned. Any particular brand/type of cleaner, or are they all pretty much the same? Just spray on the metal, or dunk everything and let sit?

Once it warms up a bit I'm going to disassemble and put the stock in a black trash bag on the dash of my truck. That always works pretty well.

Just use whatever non chlorinated brake cleaner you can get. Strip the rifle down to the barreled action. All small parts into a small metal container, I use an old steel baking dish. Be sure to strip the bolt down, cosmoline will likely be caked inside the firing pin channel which could lead to a slamfire if not cleaned out. Spray the brake cleaner liberally and use a nylon brush or whatever to scrub any stubborn gunk. Hose down the small parts and let them sit a bit, again scrub as needed. When everything is clean to my liking, I hit everything with compressed air to dry all the parts. Now the metal will be completely dry with no oil remaining so time to apply oil. I use Kroil for this purpose and apply very liberally to make sure all of the metal is coated with lubricant. Wipe off and blow off any excess and you should be good to go.

Nice gat, @Expat! What are your first impressions so far regarding fit and finish? What year is your front trunnion? I know at least a few of us will be interested to read a range report.

A wee bit belated for a planned St. Patty's Day pic, but I'll blame the Harp for that.

Here's an AMD-65 I recently snagged from a fellow INGOer and helluva nice guy. Hungarian vinyl 5-cells are by far my favorite surplus pouches.

My fellow forum AK fans who I've had the pleasure of meeting are all stand up guys. Perhaps we can get an INGOpnik community shoot scheduled some day.

Very nice!!! How does the ACE handle?

Like a boat anchor to be honest lol. It is a big gun for a 5.56 but the build quality is outstanding, on par with HK, FN Herstal, etc, etc. Replacing the factory M4 style stock for the Galil stock seemed to drop some ounces and I'm going to swap the factory quad rail for a MI or RS rail which should shave some more ounces.
