Found a new one that comes with 2 mags....$1440. Figure used with one mag is 1340. One more mag makes that 1380....not enough savings to go used....but can't make it there until Monday probably so see if it lasts. Probably lose out on both LOL

Actually i'd probably let both go and just keep looking now that you have an idea of what you want. If you're around Indy and the only thing that's holding you back on some other models is an ambi-safety, i'd help you fit one.

Love my TRP with extra WC mags. As my first 1911 I will end up comparing all other (non custom shop) 1911’s to it.

My only nitpick is the 2-piece guide rod requiring a hex wrench to strip it down. Is it worth getting a 1-piece rod instead?

t was a little salty at $1200 nib, but seems like a great value, it runs real smooth.
TRP is good but I personally have never been a fan of WC mags. Plastic follower and slit sides in stamping funneled me to CM for less money even.

    Appreciate the offer.

IF I could have my druthers, I'd have an ambi safety, be able to switch the mag release button to ambi or at least left handed and go ambi on the slide release. I don't even know if that's possible.

When I've had this itch before, I wanted to look at Springfields Loaded and TRP lines.

This gun will probably never be carried, too many years carrying Berettas. But it wouldn't be a safe queen either. So those two models seem to be higher quality production guns and I am fine with that level of 1911. Customizing is not really my style.

I am weird though. I wear guns for the occasion. At home when working around the house I have a sw 357 I carry because I don't expect to need multiple shots but occasional pest animals.

I'll sometimes wear it into town.

When I GO somewhere it's a 92F or a PX4 with 92 series safety levers to keep it similar so I did customize that I guess.

The 1911 may go somewhere in between. Carry it into my small towns but if I GO somewhere it would probably stay at home.

I would probably shoot it in a uspsa match or two after taking some refresher training with the 1911 to be familiar enough with it.

I want one for 3 reasons. It's an iconic gun. When I am at the range and someone has a really fancy one I can handle it proficiently and ease of parts in a end of the world scenario.

I already have parts kits for the 92F and the PX4 so that last one may be a bit of a stretch

You might just search for a loaded model, those have ambi's they just won't have the checkering and magwell but if you want those things then the TRP for 1340.00 isn't too bad as it would run 200-300 to add checkering later and 60 and up for a good magwell.

I do like the mag well. If by checkering, you mean front and rear on the grips. I would want that. Looks like the loaded may only have it on the back strap. I didn't know I wanted that until I handled a couple without it.

Yes, TRP's have it on the frontstrap and mainspring housing, loadeds just on the mainspring housing.

I can recommend the TRP. I owned one in stainless for about a year and it was a well made pistol. I ended up selling it only because I wanted to recoup the value for other pursuits.

If you can afford it, I'd jump on that TRP. I have never had any issues with my SA Loaded or my SA EMP...they make a nice 1911. And that TRP has much nicer features than that Colt. I like the stainless, the front-strap checkering, flat mainspring housing, and known quality of the TRP that presumably hasn't been monkeyed with like the Colt.

Also, they're not getting any cheaper, so I don't think you're taking much of a risk putting the money down on a stock factory TRP...you'll likely be able to get your money back out of it or better if you ever decide to sell. That's probably not the case with a Colt gunsmith special.

My first few all had front strap checkering. I didn’t realize how much of a difference it made until I bought one without it.

Here's the ad for the 9mm in the classies:

Although a guy with the initials CM told me to buy a 1911 in 9mm (which isn't a real 1911) would make me a word that won't get past the filters.

    He might have been joking.
Yeah, I think he has called me that before, lol. I have this model in 9 mm. Love it. I get having that larger hole but I'm too much of an overthinker so I switched from 45 to 9 a long time ago. I have never looked back.

Long term I want to suppress it.
If you're going to need a threaded barrel you might hold out and see if you can find something like a Dan Wesson Wraith on Gunbroker (I think I paid $1700 for mine). By time you buy a barrel for a TRP and have it fitted by a smith you'll have that into it likely. I love my TRPs as much as the DW, but the DW has that threaded barrel from the factory.

The person helping me out at the gun counter was very helpful and I got a bit of a 1911 history lesson and why people on forums talk and talk about guide rods, bushing vs non bushing barrels, etc :)

One thing he did for me after I manipulated/dryfired the Colt and the TRP several times was he pulled out a Kimber alongside the Colt and the TRP, because I made a comment the TRP trigger was noticeably better. He said that a lot of people believe the Kimber has the best out of the box trigger (not trying to get you all into a debate!), and I was immediately able to appreciate both the Colt (WC trigger) and the TRP triggers and the TRP trigger was the best of the bunch.

I finally understand what you 1911 guys are talking about with your triggers. With my Berettas, including a couple of 45s, you definitely have take up and then start the "squeeze" part of the trigger pull. Of course they are also double action. With the TRP there was only squeeze, squeeze, bang. Colt had the tinest bit of roughness in the squeeze and the Kimber had a tiny bit of a take up.

Thanks guys for helping me out! the TRP was definitely the right one for me, and I told the guy at the shop, one of the best production models is more gun than I can shoot anyway and gives me peace of mind that I got a quality 1911. One thing he told me was that even though they are production models, they are hand inspected at the end of the line.

I doubt I will ever actually carry it much because as a lefty in a "real" situation if I am ever so unlucky, I don't like to switch carry guns much. Now if it had a left hand mag release....my first ever pistol, 92 series, I had the left hand mag release and ambi safeties...I still had to use a right hand slide release....one reason I moved from a 92 to a PX4 so it was fully left hand compatible then I put 92 safety levers on the PX4 to make it handle more like a 92, LOL. In my mind, the 1911 mag release is a potential liability for a lefty in a "real" situation.
BUT if I could get a mag release swapped and an ambi slide release of a quality equal to the TRP.....don't even know if thats possible without degrading the quality of the TRP.

I am in no rush though, for now, I will go out in the back yard, shoot a group with one of my Beretta's and one with my 1911 and see what happens. Then go retake some intro/mid level classes to develop my skills on 1911s, and see what happens. It only took 20 yrs for me to go from 92 to PX4 and I am at 12 years on the PX4.....change is possible!

To the unknown mod who did me a favor! they asked sent me an alert if everything looked as it should but, maybe because they were hidden at the time or because of my settings, their avatar was a question mark and I couldn't reply.

Convert all your Beretta's to G then that eliminates that variable.
