yes you can open carry but as soon as you get tired of being asked to see your paper work you will CC
Just curious but have either of you open carried and have you been asked for you LTCH by an officer because of it?

I've never been asked for my paperwork. Ever.
Ditto. Not once. Now I don't usually OC but I do on occasion and have encountered officers while doing so. Absolutely never been asked for my "papers."

Hey...I OC'd for the first time today at Menards in Valpo. I even placed my coat in the cart while I shopped to look at some flooring that my wife wants me to install. I had maybe one or two glances but that was it. Maybe it's the good-ol-boy 'tude there and they just left me alone. Normally I carry my compact 9 but today I had my old S&W Model 19 with 4" neatly tucked in my holster. I suppose I did it more out of "feel" because usually, as heavy as it is, I will IWB my revolver if I happen to carry it.

I have been asked for my LTCH once by the "Security Guy" at Best Buy because another ASSioate could not ask about it nicely. The guy got crappy with me and THEN the security guy came around. Asked me if I was a police officer to which I replied no but I'm am licened by the state to carry a handgun. He asked to see it I said that I'm only required to show it to a police officer but because I didn't want to cause any trouble I would show it to him. On the way out I stopped to talk to him on the way out and he didn't know there was such a thing as a LTCH! I had I nice conversation about the other employee and went on my way.

BTW: I'm trying to rep melnesdad and ATM but I gotta spread it around!

I actually think that is pretty funny about the "security guy" at best buy as I worked at one through college and found that most of the "security guys" really thought they were cops. anyway I do think that OC is a great policy although I have never done it, it is nice to know that I cant get in trouble for my jacket blowing out in the wind revealing my handgun.

Sig, even if you never OC once in your life, I'll throw in my common saying here:

    OC?
    CC?
DC? (Discrete carry, primarily CC, but if your shirt/coat gaps you don't really care)

It doesn't matter. Carry, and carry safely. :patriot:

A handgun is good enough in most, if not all cases.

Only because we can conveniently have them with us all or most of the time, whereas a variety of reasons make it difficult to carry a rifle or shotgun as frequently.

Handguns are puny and pathetic. Over 95% of people shot with handguns in America survive, including suicide attempts. The same is not true for rifle wounds.

In other news . . . for those who claim that someone will freak out and call the cops automatically if they see someone open carrying . . . I open carried in Golden Corral (my first time there) last night in Terre Haute. No one said anything to me, no one called the cops, no problems at all. Also, no one entered to rob the place and shot me first, but that may have been because no one chose to rob the place anyway. :D

few of us OC'd last night at Golden Corral, nobody freaked out or said a word...

Just so you know, if I had decided to rob the place, I was planning to shoot you first since I saw your gun.

And I was going to call the cops on you, but we left before I could do it.

I think you scared some small children too.

Not sure I would agree that handguns are puny and pathetic. Also, I'd sure like to know where you get those statistics about the number of people who survive being shot. You know the old saying . . . 88% of all statistics are made up. :)

Something I would be worried about with open carry is getting gun snatched. You reach for your food at the counter and someone behind has open access to your gun. I only carry concealed. If someone entered a store with open carry I would have one hand on my gun and one eye on them at all times. I don't know who they are and what they are doing. If it makes me uncomfortable think what it does to someone that is nervous around guns. I know it is legal but makes me nervous.
    By the way beautiful gun:D

well then you need to take a pistol retention coarse, so that you know how to hold yourself while carrying and what to do if someone reaches for your weapon.

also, you putting your hand on your pistol if you see someone open carry is a dumb idea, because if he is carrying it open then 9 times of 10 he has a valid permit. criminals moctly conceal theirs unless they are getting ready to rob someplace and then their gun is sideways in their hand, :)
so if i was carrying and i saw you starring at me and presenting hostile body language and then with a hand in your coat then i would be watching you even closer, and i promise you that having mine out open that i would draw faster than you anyways. so please dont even touch your gun unless you are gonna pull it, that just makes people REALY NERVOUS in a BAD WAY.

but there is much proof that open carry is tactically the best way to carry a weapon. many more weapons instructors will recomend open carry than ones that say to conceal it. if you have to pull your gun are you gonna ask the criminal to give you a sec so you can lift up your shirt to access your pistol?? or what if it gets hung up on your coat?? open carry is best. you might get weird looks but SO WHAT!! ive been weird ever since i joined the army, i dont care if people stare at me.

I've had my license for over 6 years, but I guess I never knew about the open carry. I've carried concealed the whole time, which is often quite necessary for me, since I'm a pastor.

Just in case you don't know, and nobody has said it yet (sorry I didn't want to read 8 pages of OC vs. CC junk):

Be careful if you are carrying in your church, it is possible it is a felony. If your church has any kind of daycare center or school, it is likely against the law to have a firearm. That is unless the person in charge of the school/daycare/child-ministry has authorized you to act as security.

    I'll check out the stats.

Re-stating your opinion doesn't make something true. I was hoping that you could actually support your opinions with something substantial.
