I took the CZ 457 MTR to it's 4th range trip today. Trips 1-3 were disappointing using low end ammo (Aguila Super Extra SV, Federal American Eagle and Federal Auto Match).
Today I switched to SK Standard Plus and groups improved. I see the gun's potential with better ammo and improvement on my part.
The INGO Brain Trust has frequently said that good .22 ammo makes a difference and now I understand.
I need to double the ammo budget and find a cure for the 5th round flier virus that I have. I had a few good groups going until the virus said no.
First photo, 5 round groups at 50 yds from a bench. The second photo is a close up of the flier that broke my heart.
Nice shooting! Maybe you're getting a bit of the yips? See a really good group happening then on the last shot start to try too hard? Happens to me on occasion. I'll often get off the stock and take a few deep breaths and give it a couple of "ohhmmm, ohhhmmmm, mel-low, mel-low" then once I've settled down I'll fire the last shot.

Great minds .... I almost used the term yips but I wasn't sure everyone would know the meaning.
Maybe it is the yips. I definitely put more pressure on myself to finish well but I take my time and go through my checklist for a good shot. When it goes off mark I don't know why. I'll try stepping away and stretching before taking the last shot.
    I need more trigger time!

Yep, it happens. Having that mental checklist helps. Sometimes if I'm shooting a really good group I'll actually dry fire a round or two before the last shot. Provided of course, that is safe for rifle to do so.

    What is it?
I'm actually looking into a cheap Rossi RB22 it's their 22lr bolt action. My dad got the RX22 iirc that is the model of their 22lr semiautomatic. I'm very impressed with the reliability and accuracy of it. He paid $106 out the door. I want the bolt action version. For a beat up coon hunting rifle. Anyone have any experience with the Rossi RB22 model?
It’s a savage 64 threaded heavy model. Ky gun co had them for sub $150 with free shipping a while back. Currently 180 on there site. A cheapie red dot. And sig silencer

I'm trying some mid-grade ammo in the CZ MTR and getting some interesting results. T-Dogg and Doddg have influenced me to show my work.
I shot this target on Sunday, 5 shot groups, 50 yds from a bench. 25 rounds of Eley Practice 100, 50 rounds of SK Standard + and 15 rounds of CCI SV (just to see how it would do compared to more expensive ammo).
The Eley Practice 100 was very consistent. The SK averaged larger groups but I shot twice as much so the likelyhood of human error increased. Ignoring the fliers would bring the group average in line with the Eley. The SK had the best group of the day, .282".
The CCI SV wouldn't group with this gun. That's odd since the RPR shoots it pretty well.

Love it: thanks for posting.
Last summer was buying, shooting & selling rifles to find the "keepers."
That means breaking out some of the better ammo I've been saving for when I narrowed down my choices.
Can't wait to see how better ammo works in the 3 rifles that I kept that I kept for target shooting:
    - CZ 455 (bolt)
    - RPR (bolt)
    - CZ 512 (semi): surprised that this is my best shooting rifle, being a semi & not a bolt.

I don't think the RPR will keep up with the other two, but I can't part with it yet.
I have a Henry pump just for fun steel shooting, just b/c I like it & it's a fun change-up.
All these rifles bought from members here. :coffee: ;)

i got my Remington 597 out Saturday. Only fired one shot at 65 yards. CCI stinger was good for minute of groundhog...
    Lunch!

Good shooting! Amazing the difference between the SK and CCI, and the SK isn't really that much more $. The Eley is some good stuff, its basically Tenex that just isn't quite up to snuff.

Good to see somebody is getting out and doing some shooting, I haven't fired a shot in a couple of months at least.

Killough's site describes the Practice 100 as being made on the same machines as Tenex and Match so I think you are correct in describing it as Tenex rejects.
Yes, several of Eley's products are simply batches of stuff that didn't make the grade for higher grades. Rather than scrap it they put a different label on it and charge less. And sometimes they make too much good stuff and have to down grade it to get their money out of it.
Actually, Eley isn't the only Euro maker that does that, as far as I know SK, RWS, and Lapua all do it.

Finally got out to do a bit of shooting today. Had a bit of the shakes so not my best work. Probably should have stuck to ringing steel but had some new to me ammo to try.
Anyway, Tikka T1x with Leupold VX-III 6.5-20 scope set at 20x and shot at 50 yards instead of my usual 75.
    Eley Club groups of:
    .429
    .609
    .638
    .408
    .846
    for an average of .586
    Eley Target groups of:
    .380
    .443
    .582
.679 this group had a flyer that had a pretty good crack to it. Definitely sounded supersonic.
    .498
    for an average of .516
Both types show promise, I'll try them again when I'm a little steadier.

Saw this at a steel challenge match this past weekend… adding a witness port to 10/22 mags to quickly/easily verify it’s a full mag you’re grabbing.

Just drill your own… empty the mag first, naturally. ;)

Getting ready for this years rimfire sporter at Camp Perry (National Matches) and I decided I need to pull the Anschutz match sights off and add an optic. Nothing like changing things at the 11 hour.....anyone else going to shoot this match?

Hmmm, good idea! Wonder if it would be possible to add a couple more holes, like for half full and another for 3 rounds remaining?
