I would think the 50 post rule could be waived for someone who has been a INGO member for 11 years...
Wrong thread for that, try this one:

Whether or not the OP belongs in the classifieds, he has a good point. I have seen some ads that were so surly that there is no way I would buy no matter how badly I wanted it. It's one thing to remind people to respond by PM; it's another thing to demand in shoutycaps that they not lowball, not bump the ad, not reply if they are not local, etc. etc. etc.

I've run across a few ads I've just skipped completely over this. I don't want to buy your overpriced gun anyway if I have to deal with that kind of attitude, is my thought.

Nope. Come on man we have well more than enough stuff to track. Our secret command bunker (once shared by L-T6 operators) is swamped with work.....:)

Uh no. You have no idea what a nightmare that would be. Honestly just get your 50 or....as the OP has now done....step up and drop a $20 spot and support the forum.

Yup. And I am not showing you anything. If you dont know me from this forum you are not an active member here which is one of the reasons we have the danged rules.

If I'm selling a gun to a dear friend, I'm not using INGO's classifieds to do it.

Point is, these classifieds are a place for transactions - exchanging money/goods/services for money/goods/services. It's not a campfire to hold hands and sing kumbaya. To wish for more politeness is just plain silly to me. Don't like a price (or an item, or a seller, or a bit of snark/salt/sarcasm), then move along and get on with your day.

All in fun, just stirring the pot with one of the more less known rules.
In truth that is an unwritten rule and more a matter of decorum than an infraction action. We considered making it an actual rule but with the 12 we have we can pretty much cover this by discretion of staff.

This is something I want to put up for the minions. And pay close heed as we have been dealing with this. The rules are in place so we get to see who you are. This is in red in the introduction to the rules.

Remember the classifieds are a PERK for CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS. This is either by posting on a somewhat regular basis* outside of the classifieds or by becoming a Site Supporter. We are no longer letting members get their minimum post requirement and then spend the rest of their time selling in the classifieds without supporting the site that allows them to do so.

(* "regular basis" is at the staff's discretion)

Also we are looking at the way to close an ad and making the appropriate changes in the rules.

Here is one point to make here.
As I agree completely with your post we try and keep this place low key.

I understand if add promotion got to be an over the top problem, but linking an add relative to to the discussion someone else created shouldn't be an issue.

Actually, I think this could be done more. We need to promote our classifieds. They have become a ghost town, with members regularly promoting other sites for their trading.

There are less and less participation in INGO classifieds now days. In the past, you had to bump your add daily to keep it on the front page. Now days an add can stay on the front page of a classifieds section for a week or more.

Is traffic truly down? I have no way of knowing those numbers.
If so, could that be because we have somewhat of a vetting system applied, newbs, panic buyers and such are less likely to use this site? Could it also be that because we’re more seasoned, we’re also more prepared (don’t need stuff) and less willing to pay panic prices? To me it follows that someone can get better money somewhere else. But our classie’s will come back, and still be civilized when they do.

Not being sarcastic but I do not understand the purpose of responding pm sent? Was the intent to make others think the item was no longer available?

Guessing the correct thing would be to actually respond in a pm…. I have interest in you so and so can you tell me more about it etc?
The only possible reason I could see somebody responding in the Ad thread would be that the seller got several replies already, the Seller's box filled up before they could check it, and the buyer is letting them know they're trying to contact them to get in line.

That should be “your inbox is full”, which should maybe get a pass as an infraction???

What would make you think this, my friend? Especially since this thread premise is about civility in the classifieds?

Shouldn't now be the most active time for classifieds activity, with ammo shortages and equipment being in such demand? Shouldn't the known threat to our 2A, riots, crime/murder and defund the police have our classy's at their busiest ever?

Start a thread about Armslist or Gunbroker and you get similar, if not more activity than this thread. :ugh:

My logic is that since we don’t just let anybody in on our classies, or they at least have to jump through some hoops, those of us that are here are more prepared, don’t need items, and won’t pay panic prices, and sellers can get more over where things are a hot mess. But it will come back when prices come down, or people realize the new normal is in.
The noobs are going elsewhere for now, and won’t be going anywhere later when the panic subsides because by nature they’re unprepared, and we’ll go back to trading amongst ourselves.

AND THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE STAFF TO BE DEALT WITH.

We have other ways to make contact and yes.....If you have an ad up police your in box or get the site support perks for 500 messages over the base 50.

With the steady influx due to the insanity on the other sales sites the buy low flip high crowd is moving among us. Thats the real issue. If you post ammo up at a fair price it will be snatched up among a cat fight from a few known members and get listed within minutes elsewhere at current rates so they can make a buck on our backs.
I have had more cat fights over ammo than you people know. The PM sent thing and they think they have a lock.
Man oh man if you folks could sit in this chair for a week.....:):

Move along folks. Nothing to see here. It’s people you are dealing with. Good or bad. Polite or rude. Educated or not. Master people and you can pick and choose who you want to do business with. The biggest clue is the equipment they want to sell or buy. Start there.
