I'm shocked at the amount of major legislation that the current House has been pushing through so quickly. It seems like this type of legislation in years past would take forever to wind it's way through, adding a state is a major deal and they're pushing it through like it's just some random resolution.

PR doesn't want it. They get all the benefits of being part of the US without having to pay taxes. They have their own leadership, laws, rules, income, etc., but Uncle Sam pays for their defense.

Well actually the constitution does stipulate that the US seat of government can't be part of a state. Article I, Section 8, Clause 17. So if they make DC a state, where will they move the seat of government?

Interestingly enough, the stipulation that the seat of government be under the control of Congress and not part of any state resulted from a "Capitol insurrection".
