So we have 4-5 Mexican restaurants around, and honestly they are the farthest thing from authentic Mexican. They are not chain places, and the food is marginal at best. One of the things I noticed was they all had the same menu, same layout, typeface, etc.

So yesterday we went to Scottsville Kentucky to look at a truck, on the way back we stop to eat at a Mexican restaurant, low and behold they have the same exact menus. Along with the gaudy tables and chairs.

So do these restaurants order their menus from a restaurant supply company?

Yeah did I say how much I miss the Mexican place in Hebron.

There are some chain stores here but we have some pretty good offerings from our local Mexicans. Are those places a package they buy to get started.

Never been to Bloomfield and had to hit Google to see where it was. Only two facility names came up...seems like Google approves of your choice.

To be clear...all I searched for was "Bloomfield".

Yes they do. Many years ago, back in my early 20's I ran Don Pablos in Fort Wayne. Everything, meaning tables, chairs, plates, ect. are supplied by a few resteraunt supply places. This is why a Mexican joint in Fishers will look just like one in The Villages.

Azul Agave in Covington is pretty good. Sometimes there is a wait for the food if they are busy. But worth it. Make sure you tell them first time visitor and from out of county, and there is a discount.

I have long suspicioned that some kind of organization controlled the typical Mexican restaurants in central Indiana. As already mentioned they have the same menus and it all tastes the same. The vast majority are just mediocre...

Remember all the crap when El Rodeo went down? Always felt the authorities did not tell us the whole story...

Not sure about Mexican restaurants, but always thought there must be a Chinese restaurant in a box starter kit. Same menus and pictures on the wall... No matter if it matches what they actually serve or not.

At least El Rodeo has decent food.

    I'm more of a Tex-Mex fan myself. Chuy's is my go-to.

I miss the in house fresh made tortillas from Don Pablos. And their Steak Poblano was awesome. But Chuy's has awesome fresh tortillas so all is right with the world. LOL

Food service companies and stock photos. Many restaurants serving the exact same "toss and serve" base ingredients plus soups, rangoons, egg rolls, and wontons straight from Sysco/Gordon/US Foods or a local or regional supplier... thats why the "beef and broccoli" in Indianapolis is the same as OKC.

The traditional menu will have the better stuff, but it's not to my liking.

I noticed the same thing when I lived in MN 20 years ago. Same menu for multiple Mexican restaurants and they pretty much tasted the same. Don Pablo's was one of the few chain restaurants that I thought was better, depending on the location, but towards the end of their run their food and service both declined pretty badly. The chain I miss the most from here in Indy was Mi Amigos. Was popular in the late 80's and 90's, but I think it went out of business around 2012 or so. They had the best chili covered tamales I've ever had and fantastic queso dip. I think they had 3 locations at their height, but were down to just the one on Thompson and Emerson when I moved home in 2011.

    I like Taco Bell..........
I like them too at times. But I don't consider them Mexican food, let alone authentic Mexican food.

Around me I like El Tapatio and as 2nd place Esmerelda's pancake house. Both in Monticello. The strip where El Tapatio is turning into little Mexico, there's like 5 storefronts and the restaurant opened up first, then a Mexican bakery, next was Mexican grocery store, then a Mexican owned beauty parlor, waiting to see what comes in next. The restaurant, bakery, and grocery store are all good. Never been to the beauty parlor (and it shows).

When I lived up north El Taco Real in Hammond, unless I wanted fancy then it was Casa Blanco in East Chicago.

    S.E. of disorder
I dearly love our local Mexican restaurants but have a problem with the number of illegals they employ. Just last year one of our favorites in Plainfield and several of it's affiliates were raided by ICE and shutdown. They've since reopened and I'll never go back.

And if you believe that everyone that works at one is legal you're not very well connected with reality.

And no I'm not racist although I'm sure some have already hung that label on me. As an army brat I grew up with and around people of many colors, nationalities, etc. I just don't like criminals.
