Why 1911s? I say why not.
Shoot good, carry good, Accurate as hell
Handsome, 8+1 is good enough for me.
AND...I have never watched a YouTube video of one blowing up. I'm sure its happened but I haven't seen it yet. I have however seen 10+ Glocks go kaboom.
No glock smile when you reload.
OH did I mention the sweet trigger?
I love the custom glock where they replaced the trigger the barrel the slide the slide release the sights paid to stipple the grip. Could have just bought a nice Colt or Kimber. Unless you really need a half a box of ammo in your gun.
All in fun though. I have a few Glocks and do sometimes carry one. Just prefer a good old 1911

I can't hear but thankfully the subtitles were working well. I felt what was being said it was wrote well. I had to share that video to those people closest to me.

My 1st 1911 is one my son bought me for Christmas 2020 it's a 10mm RIA Ultra FS. I've only fired 200rds and I'm addicted already. 20210114_170224.jpg

I don't have one nor do I remember shooting one. It would seem almost sacrilegious to get my first one in anything but .45 ACP, but the 10 mm Ronin is tempting. My biggest concern is there is so much variety in them so I get nervous I'll buy wrong.

I now have 1911s in .17 pellet, .22 LR, .380 ACP, 9mm, .45 ACP, and 10mm. I also have Officer, Commander, and Full Size models. I have yet to find one that I don't just love to shoot. Guess I will just have to keep buying various calibers and models until I find one I don't like.

I have to admit I am firmly in the 2011 camp at this point.

    This is "In Process".
Started out as a SA loaded.
Hours and hours later I still have hours to go.
But that is why I/we labor at this. Spend untold funds on tools/tooling/machines and so on.

I have the sites just need to install them.
    Some final tune work inside.

Sex with metal. Or sexy metal. Or something like that.
That's some serious gun porn right there, you've got her all dressed up! 1613109328485.png

    Yeah but in what caliber?
I have a 10mm now I want a 45acp. IMO 1911 should be 45acp minimum power wise. I like the 10mm because you have a slightly more powerful caliber than a 357 magnum in a semiautomatic. If you shoot full power 10mm rds or rds that give you at least 550 ft lbs of energy at muzzle.

My grandfather was a combat engineer in WWII. He was in several fights as he was always at the front putting in bridging or clearing mine fields etc. He carried a 1911A1. He said he had shot several Germans in upclose and hand to hand fighting. According to him when they got hit in the chest with one 45acp ball they immediately ceased to continue to fight.
As I got older and I tried to explain that Hollow point ammo was the way to go. He refused to listen because he said ball ammo worked well for him in actual combat and he wasn't changing lol. My Uncle now has my grandfather's WWII 1911A1. It's something we as a family are very proud of.

Where else can you get the capacity of a single stack with the weight of a double and poor reliability? Flame on.

Either you want to bring some levity to the conversation or you missed the whole point :D :wallbash: No flames from me, ether way your input is appreciated just as different opinions are appreciated here on INGO. No one is more sold on a Glock, I'm never without one but comparing Glocks and 1911s is apples and oranges. It's the difference in Want and Need.
This thread has been the encouragement necessary to push me over the edge on something I've been pondering a couple of months. You only live once and if it's something you really want you better grab for it while you can.

Edit.. I've lost 3 friends in the last two weeks, one of over 50 years.. There's very little that money buys that brings me a smile anymore. A nice 1911 brings me a smile so I'm all in for as long as I'm on this earth..

I never said anything about the G word. Nor do I care what anyone chooses to carry or shoot. Just doing my part to keep the timely 1911 debate going. I’ve owned a few, they were sweet shooters. I don’t own any guns that don’t serve a defensive purpose anymore thus I have no more 1911’s.

Yeah, thanks, we would have been unable to discuss 1911s without you trolling the thread. 1911s (contrary to your final sentence) have served a defensive purpose for a very long time.

This is INGO. They don’t serve a defensive purpose for me.....is that less offensive?
