Calculated via worldometers data just now, our CFR continues to fall and is at 1.73% (to three SigFig). We have been lower than Germany for almost a week.

The next favorite example country that we are going to surpass, Japan, has had its CFR rise from 1.46% to 1.48% during the same time period. S. Korea has risen from 1.38% to 1.46% during the same period

There are several studies out there where experimenters reviewed security camera footage as well as drove around videoing the people on the street and compliance was found to be always in the 72% to 89% range. The caveat would be it is like a poll, where an overall compliance number is derived statistically from a smaller sample and they cannot go into private spaces such as peoples homes and apartment buildings to see what kind of compliance is happening there, but that sort of masking isn't required anyway.

    72% - 89%. That's everyone, right?

Would you be happy with that level of protection from a condom?

Perhaps you have an anecdote that explains why the rate of spread is higher in this second wave than in the first, when lockdowns were more spotty and masking compliance was much lower.

You think lockdowns in April were more spotty than they are now?

This is EXACTLY why masks don't work!!!
Based on my real life observations.
An individual who willingly wears a mask is highly likely to engage in regressive and unsanitary behaviors.
    • General poor grooming
    • Lack of hand hygiene
    • Unnnecessary proximity
    • Undiscarded mask/gloves everywhere and my personal favorite
    • Hand 2 Mask syndrome. :D

The person in the above illustration would pee all over themselves...
Then walk around all day soaked in urine, touching their pants because they are uncomfortable, touching everything else, and right before they leave the area...
They remove their disgusting pants and lay them on a desk or hang them on a door knob.

Just waiting to be reused tomorrow. SMH

    TL;DR - Masks work, Humans don't.

A mask can't save you from yourself.

    1) You effed up the analogy, mixing efficacy in with compliance. To make the analogy correct, you would need to talk about whether 72 to 89% condom wearing compliance would achieve some beneficial effect such as lowering the number of cases of abortion

Slow down, you have plenty of time to maybe prove me wrong someday

    2) By spotty, I mean covering a smaller geographic area as well as variable in stringency

The person wearing the condom gets protection.

Everyone wearing a mask provides protection. Not 72% of people.

Yes, better than in June. Still significantly worse than in the parts of the world where the case numbers are practically zero.

Masks are certainly not the entirety of pandemic defense. In fact, they're a pretty small part.

The refusal to wear a mask, to me, says a lot about the character of the person. A lot of people imagine themselves to be a "sheepdog," always willing to protect their families and communities. But when a simple way to do it shows up...
Lmao, putting masks all the way at the front. What utter unscientific trash.

California has all those things, still waiting on it to save them.

Someone either has the virus or they don't. Pee is a poor example because it is universally disgusting regardless of who is doing the peeing (kinks being the exception I guess).

The droplets are a problem because we don't know who is sick and who isn't until after they've already infected others. Your own droplets won't hurt you.

We don't know who is sick

    Um, yes we do.
You are, and he is, and that lady over there, oh and those kids.
    And possibly your dog too.

People are disgusting, and those who are avoiding this virus and every other for that matter are those who recognize this fact.

A healthy immune system and general loathing of humanity are infinity more effective than say, improperly wearing PPE 9-5.

Okay sure whatever. Pee is still not the best example. Pee itself is gross. Breath is not. Even if you already have Covid, your own breath still doesn't harm you in the way pissing yourself gets **** on yourself.

So, while the people were yacking about you must wear a mask I sat there in an altitude sickness/hypoxia with an SpO2 of 80 thinking who am I going to throttle and take with me of these embicilic dotards. You want to wear a mask? Fine. You want me to wear a mask? Pound sand. Think what you want when you don't have all the facts. Don't think I am going to wear some farce mask because your farce mask isn't working.

Where's that ****ing eye-roll emoji when ya need it. This is where we're just not gonna agree. And I don't think we're disagreeing much on efficacy of masks. It's a small part of all the things we can do to help. I disagree when you go on with the logical fallacy that the US sucks more than the world at mask wearing, the rest of the world isn't as bad as we are, therefore masks are the reason. You and other's who do that nonsense gloss over a lot of other factors. Probably oughtta stop it. It's not helping.

As long as we're being judgmental, that last paragraph juxtaposed with that retarded diagram tells me a lot about character too. The creators of the retarded diagram are apparently self-righteous **********s, because that's how that comes off to me. As soon as I saw it my eyes practically rolled out of my head. As far as "sheepdog" goes, that's for a different thread. Don't get me started.

You must have weak baby lungs if wearing a 3 layer surgical mask put your oxygen at 80. What's it normally? 81? C'mon dude.

I posted up ten factors that all together help stop/reduce spread. I don't think masks are the only difference.

But, this is the mask thread. Of course I'm going to focus on masks in this discussion.

Okay, now do old people wearing condoms.
Eww, no. I'm not doing anything with old people in condoms.
