Starting back in the day as a sportsman growing up in the 50's it occurred to me the other day that there are many sounds with this gun hobby that are sweet to my ears. Even as my hearing continues to degrade I still hear some of these quite well. At a recent training class a student asked me how I knew that he failed to chamber a round because of a poorly seated magazine. My reflection on this event gave cause to this thread so I write. Many of these sounds associate with what I feel in my hands as well. A partial list of sweet sounds and haptic responses are as follows.
The sounds of
Empty 45/70 Brass ejecting and hitting the bench/ground.
Racking an 870
Thumb safety action
Holstering
Unholstering
Sliding a brass magazine follower in place on a magazine fed .22
Many levels of gunfire
Closing the cylinder on my revolvers.
The 4 clicks of my SAA
The bolt action working of my 700's
The paster Gun
The stapler
The dealer stating No, but I can get one in a few days.
The dealer stating these work just as good and they are cheaper.
The Dillon working
The tumbler running
20 Gauge Hulls ejecting from my over and unders
Paging some clerk for a customer in the sporting goods section of Sears
And of course people referring to magazines as clips.
I have left many out for lack of memory but I will know them when I hear em.
What sounds do an INGOERS associate with in this sport?
Thanks for visiting my threads.
