In case anyone was wondering, Patoka Lake was rocking and rolling yesterday. I believe it was as busy as I have ever seen it. Boats going every direction. I wanted to do some shooting but the day got away from me.

I have to repair the downspouts leading to the rain filtration barrel, and clean the barrel.
Then, I'll surely deserve some quality time in the hammock ! ;)

    Morning all.

No new computer for me till next weekend. The old power supply isn't compatible with the new motherboard. I should have checked that.

I had thought about going out to Proteq next weekend, but now it is going to be building new computers instead.

    Sounds like a wet job.

Well this video seems fitting for today, what should be the running of the indy 500.
This whole month seems weird now.
    And i do miss Jim.

Picture this please and you will understand my sentiments.

Having put everything else in life on hold for at least 60 days to build 2 cars and make them competitive with whatever is available as in 2 year+ old tech....little if any sleep for at least the last 20 days because you had one of the 2 cars (or both) test the wall and suddenly you are racing the clock when the cannon fires and then the balloons.
It has all led up to this one moment. The car is qualified and you have just posted it up on the starting grid. The starter cart is next to you as you look out on the field of the fastest 33 cars and drivers. +The crews are now relaxed and waiting for Mary. In every direction the stands are a sea of humanity. You can feel the energy. It is everywhere. You run a few last minute details through your mind and check......you, the crew...the car...the driver are all ready. You walk up to the side of the car and check his belts. Radio check. Hand shake and a wink and a nod.

Then Jim comes out and is announced. The crowd goes near dead quite. He sings that song you know so well. Goose bumps. Yes the butterfly's and goose bumps come because this is it. The end game you worked you a$$ off for, put life on hold for, is about to commence. Jim belts it out. You smile and plug the starter into the trans axle. Mary takes center stage and in her all to feeble voice says the words. Those magic words. The driver verifies ready on the headset. You Grip the 48 volt started motor (It began life as a radial engine starter in an airplane) and stab the button with your thumb. It spins the engine over for maybe 15 seconds as you build oil and fuel pressure in the V-6 Buick that you actually assembled in you shop at home. The driver engages the run switch and she lites up with 750 HP worth of authority. The field starts to slowly move off. You hand the starter to someone and they go to the wall and wait in case you need them. The car is pushed off and it begins.

I am so ****ing pissed off at this entire :bs: that those bastards have ruined this experience for so many.

Great post CM...thank you for sharing it and yes, we all are a tick pissed.

I've been on a very long (*and wet*) re-roof of the home.

It's been "interesting" with the weather and all.

    I'll be back on tomorrow.

    Late good morning folks! :coffee:

I have my projects lined up in the garage today but there will be no race on sadly. It’s not going to feel right. This is typically one of my favorite days of the year and I really am sad that it will be missed. A massive FU to the Chinese govt pukes that made this to happen.

But, we’ll do the garage projects and will be grilling later today. It will still be good, but not near as good as it should be.

The person/family that got me involved in open wheel racing is where I will be for a while today helping get his fathers place ready to sell. He is the man I shared so much time with bent over a race car with.

My emotions are mixed. Holcomb sucks the big one.

I got to the Indy 500 the second to last year for Jim. I found an opportunity to go for free (was part of the volunteers for the flag stuff). I would always get goosebumps watching it on tv. Hearing the best marching band in the state play with the guy I knew as Gomer from Andy Griffith while standing on the front stretch next to the eventual winner of the race was emotional as all can be. If I never get back, I will be okay I want that memory to be the one I remember if I don't. I don't want to know the Indy 500 without Jim or Mari, that was my childhood.

I learned recently that Jim happened upon doing that by accident. He was there in 1972 just to watch when he was asked to sing from the Hulman's.

Nabors didn't find out for a while that morning that he was tabbed to sing "Back Home Again" and, knowing the tune but wanting to be extra careful, had to scribble the words on his palm. He then delivered a stirring rendition that belied the comic genius of his characters on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."

The rendition earned a return invitation for 1973 -- the first time in 20 years a "Back Home Again" singer repeated the performance -- and then another invitation. And another.

For five years I worked at grocery store in Terre Haute and Mari Hulman George was in there weekly, if not more. I always looked forward to talking to her about the track while I unloaded her groceries for her into her IMS Suburban. With both her and Jim gone, the 500 will never be the same to me, especially with the Hulman's not even owning the track or clabber girl anymore. Mari was so nice and you wouldn't even know who she was if you didn't watch the races or seen her car.
